Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Intern Therapist to join our dynamic substance abuse/mental health team. This paid internship offers an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in clinical counseling, behavioral therapy, crisis management, and patient assessment across diverse populations. As an Intern Therapist, you will support licensed clinicians in delivering evidence-based therapies, conducting intake evaluations, , facilitaing pschoeducational and theraputic groups, and assisting with case management. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about making a positive impact on mental health and eager to develop their skills in a supportive environment. Responsibilities Assist licensed therapists with conducting patient assessments, diagnostic evaluations, and intake procedures using ICD-10 coding systems. Support the delivery of individual and group therapy sessions, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, art therapy, and applied behavior analysis (ABA), EMDR. Participate in crisis intervention and crisis management activities to ensure patient safety and well-being. Help document medical records, treatment plans, progress notes, and other clinical documentation while adhering to HIPAA regulations. Engage in research activities related to substance abuse, behavioral health, mental health counseling, and clinical research projects. Support case management efforts for patients with developmental disabilities, PTSD, addiction issues, grief counseling needs, or chronic pain. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop individualized care plans tailored to each patient's needs. Requirements Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or a related field. Basic understanding of psychotherapy modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, behavioral therapy, and social work principles. Familiarity with ICD coding, medical terminology, medical documentation standards, and HIPAA compliance. Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques and crisis management protocols. Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds. Ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism and empathy while maintaining confidentiality. Familiarity with inpatient clinical settings is desirable.
