BASIC JOB FUNCTIONS
Under the supervision of the Director of Special Education or designee, the Mental Health & Wellness Specialist provides mental health assessments, individual and group counseling, supervision, crisis intervention, and consultation/outreach to students in general and special education programs. The specialist's primary responsibility is to provide educationally related mental health services to students with disabilities; however, the Specialist also provides mental health services and support to students without a disability. The Mental Health & Wellness Specialist consults with teachers, administrators, other specialists, parents, outside agencies, and district personnel on mental health and wellness programs and services.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
REQUIRED:
  • Master's degree in psychology or social work from accredited graduate school required.
  • Experience working in a public or private educational setting providing mental health related services, OR
  • Must have three years of experience within a school setting and complete a minimum of 15 hours of mental health intervention training within the first 12 months of hire.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES and
CLEARANCES
Prospective and current employees are expected to possess and maintain the following:
  • Valid California Marriage Family and Therapy licensure or intern eligible and/or
  • Valid Clinical Social Work licensure
  • Valid California Driver's License with evidence of insurability
HIGHLY DESIRABLE
  • License as a Clinical Psychologist; License as a Clinical Social Worker; License as a Marriage, Family Child Counselor or Marriage and Family Therapist issued by a licensing agency within the Department of Consumer Affairs
  • Fluent Bilingual (Spanish/English) Copy of Transcript Letter of Introduction Letter(s) of Recommendation (3 Current Letters of Recommendation (within 3 years)) Resume Requirements / Qualifications
