Through our integrated Foster Family Agency and Counseling Center, we provide trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and relationship-centered care that supports healing, growth, and long-term stability.
Program Overview:
Counseling Center The Counseling Center at A Coming of Age Foster Family Agency provides comprehensive mental health and supportive services to children, youth, and families across Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. Rooted in trauma-informed care and cultural humility, our multidisciplinary team delivers services in homes, schools, community settings, and our central office—ensuring flexibility, accessibility, and meaningful engagement within natural environments. We believe that healing and resilience emerge through trusting relationships and collaboration among caregivers, providers, and communities. The Mental Health Clinician plays a vital role in this process by providing direct therapeutic support, fostering emotional safety, and guiding families toward growth and stability. Clinicians partner with families to understand the impact of trauma, strengthen coping capacities, and promote relational healing that extends beyond the therapy room. This role embodies our commitment to whole-person care that honors the emotional, relational, and systemic dimensions of wellness. Position Summary The Mental Health Clinician is a key member of the Counseling Center's interdisciplinary team, providing trauma-informed and evidence-based therapeutic services to children, youth, and their families. This role supports clients in managing emotional and behavioral challenges while strengthening family relationships and resilience. Drawing on strong clinical skills and a commitment to collaboration, the Clinician conducts assessments, develops treatment plans, and provides individual, family, and collateral therapy. Clinicians also ensure care coordination by partnering with caregivers, schools, and community providers to support client progress and overall wellbeing. The Mental Health Clinician contributes to a team culture that values reflective practice, cultural humility, and relational connection. Clinical supervision toward licensure is available. Key Responsibilities Provide individual, family, and collateral therapy to children and youth using trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and evidence-based interventions. Conduct comprehensive assessments, diagnoses, and treatment plans that align with Medi-Cal and agency standards. Collaborate with caregivers, resource parents, and interdisciplinary team members to promote integrated and family-centered care. Participate in Child and Family Team (CFT) meetings, case conferences, and interdisciplinary consultations to ensure coordinated support across systems. Engage families in understanding treatment goals and progress, strengthening their participation in the therapeutic process. Complete documentation, progress notes, and outcome measures (including the Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths assessment) within required timelines. Provide crisis intervention, safety planning, and emotional regulation support as needed. Promote empowerment, advocacy, and resilience by helping families identify strengths, build coping strategies, and enhance communication skills. Contribute to program development efforts by sharing observations, identifying needs, and supporting service improvement initiatives. Uphold professional boundaries, confidentiality, and ethical standards while adhering to all agency policies and safety protocols across every aspect of service delivery.. Participate in weekly supervision, staff meetings, and professional development activities that foster reflective practice and continual learning. Minimum Qualifications Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, or a related field. Active registration or licensure through the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) (ASW, AMFT, APCC, LCSW, LMFT, or LPCC). Meets all Community Care Licensing requirements for employment, including fingerprint clearance, Child Abuse Index clearance, TB/Health physical, and valid California driver's license with a clean driving record. Strong clinical documentation and organizational skills. Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. Commitment to trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and strengths-based care. Proficiency in technology platforms such as Google Workspace and Microsoft Office. Preferred Qualifications Bilingual (English/Spanish or other languages) strongly preferred. Experience providing therapy to children and youth involved in the foster care or child welfare system. Familiarity with CalAIM documentation requirements and community mental health systems. Knowledge of Riverside and San Bernardino County community resources. Work Environment & Physical Demands This position includes a combination of office-based, home-based, and community-based work. Clinicians must be comfortable working independently and in collaboration with diverse families and community partners. Local travel is required, and the ability to maintain a flexible schedule—including occasional evenings or weekends—is preferred.
