Overview DescriptionJOB DESCRIPTION
The Substance Use Disorder Specialist (SUDS) for the Assertive Community Treatment Team (ACT) will assist and provide services to adults with serious and persistent mental illness in the community where they live, instead of a hospital or clinical settings. The incumbent will supervise the general health, safety, and ongoing recovery of clients who specifically have issues with alcohol and/or drugs. Also provide case management and perform counseling functions, staff education and direct groups for clients in all phases of recovery/awareness/contemplation/relapse prevention, etc. regarding co-occurring disorders.WHO WE ARE

Program Director.QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
Bilingual in Spanish. Bachelor's degree in mental health related field, plus Alcohol and Drug Certification, CADC or LADC; a minimum of two years experience in a mental health field and two years' experience in providing Alcohol and Drug services. Drivers license for at least two years and driving record acceptable to insurance carrier. Valid California driver's license; auto in safe operating condition; auto liability insurance; good driving record; criminal record clearance; proof of authorization to work in the United States as required by Immigration and Reform Act of 1986. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.Preferred:
Experience in Motivational Interviewing, Harm Reduction, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy; proficient in Outlook email correspondence and computer software's. Ability to; work as a member of a team; accept supervision; maintain appropriate boundaries while working in close interpersonal relationships; learn and apply principles of social rehabilitation; organized, responsible, flexible, empathic and able to relate effectively with clients, other staff, professionals and members of the community. Knowledge of community resources.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Substance Use Disorders Specialist will assist with the following duties: Provide on-call services. Assess Understand MHSA provisions and include bringing individual competencies to the team to enhance the team's ability to connect with consumers of all types. Provide client a culturally and linguistically appropriate recovery-orientated, trauma informed, wellness centered approach to providing services. Services will be delivered with a "whatever it takes" philosophy, collaborating with co-staff to be creative in delivering services and meeting consumers "where they are" in their recovery. Seek trainings in proven systems of service delivery such as Assertive Community Treatment, Integrated Dual Diagnosis Treatment (I.D.D.T), Harm Reduction, ASAM Criteria, Dialectic Behavior Therapy, and ongoing discussion and education with team members that promotes a learning environment. Provide staff training in Motivational Interviewing, Harm Reduction, ASMA Criteria, Stages of Change, and other substance use disorders treatment and recovery methods. Work effectively with team members that have self-disclosed as consumers of mental health services and/or are recovering from drug or alcohol abuse. Assist clients in all aspects of independent living including the development of social, vocational, and effective life management skills; and assisting clients with proper nutrition, cooking, shopping, budgeting, housecleaning and maintenance, and personal hygiene. Recognize and be available to clients in psychiatric crisis, emotional distress, and/or drug/alcohol relapse, and teach appropriate coping and conflict resolution skills. Provide counseling and emotional support. Facilitate recreational, educational, twelve step, or other program activities. This may include transporting clients, encouraging client participation, relapse prevention and modeling appropriate social behavior. Facilitate client and/or house meetings, and assume the role of advocate in all aspects of clients' needs and goals. This may include familiarizing clients with and encouraging the usage of community resources, support systems, services, and opportunities; assisting clients in building healthy peer and familial support networks. Maintain accurate and secure summary information based on documentation in computer files and databases and follow the HIPAA Privacy Rules guidelines. Assist clients in determining, developing, and carrying out their own goals; review plans and goals, evaluate progress, and foster independence. Provide counseling services including individual and group counseling, empowering potential candidates, developing and updating treatment plans, responding to crisis. Provide community-based outreach and engagement in homes or other environments. Complete program paperwork; this may include individual client files, evaluating and charting client progress, service plans, admission/discharge paperwork, Medi-Cal notes. Act as an agency liaison by consulting, collaborating, and communicating with Team Leader, County Behavioral Health staff, and other treatment agencies to meet client and program objectives. This may include coordinating referrals and/or providing information to other agencies or treatment programs Attend daily staff meetings, participate in client assessment and intake meetings, and complete required hours of training. Meet program goals and outcomes including productivity standards. Other duties as assigned.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to: operate a motor vehicle; climb stairs; possess good communication skills; meet the requirements of the classification and have mobility, vision, hearing and dexterity levels appropriate to the duties to be performed. Capable of the following extended activities: standing, sitting, climbing stairs. Capable of the following intermittent activities: lifting 25 pounds or more and bending in the performance of infrequently performed office duties.
