Full Job Description Position Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Counselor/Therapist to join our team. The SUD Counselor/Therapist will provide individual, group, and family counseling services to individuals struggling with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions in the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and Outpatient Program (OP). The successful candidate will be committed to delivering evidence-based interventions, supporting clients throughout the recovery process, and promoting long-term sobriety and wellness. This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of individuals seeking recovery in a supportive and collaborative environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide individual, group, and family counseling sessions to clients with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions. Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments and develop individualized treatment plans. Facilitate psychoeducational and process groups focused on relapse prevention coping skills, emotional regulation, and recovery support. Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation in accordance with HIPAA regulations and facility policies. Collaborate with the multidisciplinary treatment team, including counselors, nurses, medical providers, and case managers to coordinate client care. Monitor client progress and modify treatment plans as clinically appropriate. Educate clients and families on addiction, recovery, relapse prevention strategies, and community resources. Provide crisis intervention and referrals to higher levels of care or outside services when necessary. Ensure all counseling services are delivered in compliance with ethical standards, state regulations, and organizational policies. Participate in staff meetings, supervision sessions, trainings, and ongoing professional development opportunities.
Qualifications:
Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field preferred. Valid state-issued licensure or certification required/preferred, including: o LICSWs o LGSWs o LISWs o LPCs o LGPCs (providers not operating under an HCA) o LMFTs Knowledge of substance use disorder treatment modalities and evidence-based practices including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), relapse prevention, and trauma-informed care.
Experience :
Previous experience working in a substance use disorder treatment setting preferred. Experience working with clients with co-occurring mental health disorders highly desirable. Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical andprofessional standards. Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities (Competencies): Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish rapport with clients from diverse backgrounds. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to conduct comprehensive assessments and develop individualized treatment plans. Strong understanding of substance use disorders, recovery processes, and treatment approaches. Effective crisis intervention and de-escalation skills. Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment. Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems and Microsoft Office Suite. High level of empathy, professionalism, patience, and emotional resilience.
