Job Description
Miami Children's Museum is looking for a new Mental Health Support Specialist to join and support our team! The Mental Health Support Specialist will provide individualized emotional and mental health support to children, families and staff employed and enrolled in MCM school and after school programs. Support MCM staff that are struggling with stress, life changes, or other mental health concerns. Consult and collaborate with teachers and staff to assist students with implementing the designed interventions to achieve academic success and decrease behavioral and mental health issues. Give support to teachers and afterschool staff implementing behavior interventions with students in their classroom or program setting. Offer individualized assistance and support with minimum supervision assessing mental health and emotional health needs of staff, students, and families. Facilitate individual, group or family sessions to support social, emotional, mental health and learning needs. Create assessment, evaluation, intervention, and referrals to community supports and resources as needed. Engage in effective and sensitive communication with parents to foster strong relationships. Provide consultation in crisis prevention and response. Respond immediately to students, families and MCM staff in crisis situations and determine when referral to outside agency is necessary. Develop and administer behavior contracts and other intervention strategies when needed. Foster relationships with service providers within the community in the effort to establish holistic care for the students, staff, and families that are experiencing mental/emotional health challenges. Facilitate external referrals to access services by making initial contact on behalf of staff or children and families and ensuring access to resources takes place successfully. Provide mental health and behavioral management training to MCM staff as needed. Maintain Progress Notes, Incidental notes and electronic records of all interactions, meetings, and referrals made. Act as a subject matter expert and advisory resource to program staff. Conduct classroom observations to collect required data and determine areas Maintain a centralized resource list that may be shared with students, families and staff as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree in Sociology, Social Work, Psychology, Marriage, and Family Studies or equivalent. Registered in Florida as a registered Clinical Social work Intern pursuing licensure preferred A minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience A minimum of 3 years of experience in social services and knowledge of community services required Sound verbal and writing skills. Strong organizational skills. Must pass a Level 2 background screening (fingerprints) and drug test. CPR/First Aid/AED certified Reliable transportation to travel to 5 program sites to include: Miami Children's Museum, Liberty City Elementary, Earlington Heights Elementary, Kelsey Pharr Elementary, Goulds Elementary and Brentwood Elementary.Desired Characteristics:
