It has expanded to work with juveniles and families in the juvenile justice field, families impacted by family conflict and violence, and homeless veterans and their families. Summary The Peer Specialist is Direct service staff responsible for peer mentorship, engagement, and living room model staffing. Education and/or
Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent; certification as a Peer Specialist (CPS). Lived experience with mental health and/or substance use recovery and a demonstrated ability to manage personal wellness.
Qualification Requirements:
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to relate to and inspire clients on their recovery journey. Active listening, empathy, and a non-judgmental approach to supporting others. Basic understanding of mental health and substance use resources, as well as community services. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to document interactions and progress. Responsibilities Provide one-on-one peer support to clients, drawing from personal experience to build trust and rapport. Staff available community spaces/living rooms to increase engagement to address barriers to care. Share insights on navigating recovery, coping with challenges, and building resilience. Serve as a positive role model, demonstrating healthy coping skills and self-advocacy. Help clients identify and access community resources upon discharge. Support clients in navigating the continuum of care and advocating for their needs during treatment. Assist clients in developing personal recovery goals and action plans to support their wellness journey. Collaborate with clients to identify strengths, overcome barriers, and celebrate progress. Maintain accurate and timely records of client interactions, progress notes, and activities. Ensure documentation meets organizational and regulatory standards, while respecting client confidentiality. Submit regular reports on client progress, engagement, and outcomes to supervisors and program stakeholders. Miscellaneous Duties as directed.
