The role focuses on creating a safe, supportive environment that promotes recovery, skill-building, and emotional well-being.
Job Title:
Group Facilitator - Primary Mental Health Treatment Center Position Summary The Group Facilitator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and facilitating group therapy and psychoeducational sessions for individuals receiving mental health treatment. Working closely with licensed clinicians and the multidisciplinary treatment team, the facilitator helps clients develop coping skills, improve emotional regulation, enhance interpersonal relationships, and achieve treatment goals. Key Responsibilities Facilitate therapeutic and psychoeducational group sessions. Encourage active participation and maintain a safe, respectful group environment. Implement evidence-based interventions, such as: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Mindfulness and stress-management techniques Relapse prevention strategies Monitor client engagement and progress during group sessions. Document attendance, participation, and relevant clinical observations in accordance with organizational policies. Collaborate with therapists, case managers, psychiatrists, and other treatment team members. Assist in developing group curricula and educational materials. Respond appropriately to crisis situations and follow established safety protocols. Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and ethical standards. Participate in treatment team meetings, supervision, and training activities. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Human Services, or a related field. Experience working with individuals experiencing mental health conditions. Strong group facilitation, communication, and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of mental health disorders and recovery-oriented treatment approaches. Preferred Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field. Experience in outpatient, intensive outpatient (IOP), partial hospitalization (PHP), residential, or community mental health settings. Certification or training in CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing, or trauma-informed care. Licensure or licensure eligibility (depending on state requirements). Skills and Competencies Group leadership and engagement Crisis intervention and de-escalation Active listening and empathy Documentation and recordkeeping Team collaboration Cultural competence and sensitivity Professional boundaries and ethics Physical and Work Environment Primarily office or clinical setting. May require standing for extended periods during group sessions. Ability to manage emotionally challenging situations and maintain professionalism under pressure.
