Job Description

Job Overview Join our dynamic mental health team as a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern, where you will gain invaluable hands-on experience in providing compassionate, evidence-based mental health services. This paid internship offers a unique opportunity to develop your clinical skills while supporting individuals across diverse populations. You will work under licensed professionals to deliver psychotherapy, crisis intervention, and case management, helping clients navigate their mental health journeys with confidence and care. If you are passionate about making a meaningful difference and eager to expand your expertise in behavioral health, this role is perfect for you! Duties Assist in conducting comprehensive patient assessments, including intake interviews and diagnostic evaluations using ICD-9 and ICD-10 coding systems. Support licensed clinicians in delivering individual, group, and family counseling sessions utilizing modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, art therapy, dance therapy, and applied behavior analysis (ABA). Participate in crisis management by providing immediate support during mental health emergencies and implementing crisis intervention strategies. Document medical records and clinical notes accurately while adhering to HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality. Engage in behavioral health research projects and data collection efforts to improve treatment outcomes and clinical practices. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on case management plans tailored for patients with developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), PTSD, addiction issues, or chronic pain. Support telehealth services by assisting with virtual patient consultations and ensuring smooth technology operations. Qualifications Currently enrolled in or recent graduate of an accredited master's program in mental health counseling, social work, psychology, or related field. Demonstrated knowledge of psychotherapy techniques such as motivational interviewing, behavioral therapy, psychopharmacology basics, and grief counseling. Experience working with children, adolescents, or individuals with disabilities including autism spectrum disorder or developmental delays. Familiarity with ICD coding systems (ICD-9/ICD-10) and medical terminology relevant to behavioral health documentation. Strong communication skills with the ability to engage clients effectively across diverse backgrounds. Ability to handle crisis situations calmly and efficiently while maintaining professional boundaries. Prior telehealth experience is preferred; certification in addiction counseling or special education is a plus. This paid internship provides a supportive environment where aspiring mental health professionals can grow their skills while making a positive impact on the lives of those they serve. We are committed to fostering diversity and inclusion within our team, empowering you to develop your expertise in a variety of clinical settings—from outpatient clinics to inpatient facilities—while adhering to best practices in patient care and medical documentation.
