1 positions available Full Job Description We are seeking two full-time Clinical Therapists to join our Jail Based Competency Restoration (JBCR) Program at the Gadsden County Detention Facility . This role provides individual therapy, group therapy, competency education, and case management services to defendants participating in the program. The Clinical Therapist works closely with psychiatric and nursing staff to support competency restoration and mental health recovery through evidence-based therapeutic interventions, treatment planning, and coordinated care. This is an excellent opportunity for a licensed clinician who is passionate about serving individuals with serious mental illness in a structured forensic and correctional setting. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Individual Therapy Conduct weekly individual counseling sessions with assigned participants Provide supportive psychotherapy to address symptoms interfering with competency Utilize evidence-based interventions such as CBT, motivational interviewing, and problem-solving therapy Assess mental status and symptom severity at each contact Monitor treatment progress and modify interventions as clinically indicated Document all sessions thoroughly and timely in the electronic health record Group Therapy and Education Facilitate competency education groups 3 to 5 times per week covering legal concepts, courtroom procedures, and rights Lead therapeutic groups focused on symptom management, coping skills, anger management, and recovery Develop and deliver psychoeducation related to mental illness, medications, and wellness Create engaging group content using discussion, role-play, visual aids, and other teaching methods Adapt material to varying cognitive abilities and learning styles Assess participant understanding through observation and brief quizzes Assessment and Treatment Planning Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments upon admission Develop individualized treatment plans with measurable goals and objectives Update treatment plans monthly or as clinically indicated Administer competency assessment instruments such as MacCAT-CA, ECST-R, and CAI Track progress toward competency restoration using standardized measures Collaborate with the psychiatrist regarding diagnostic formulation and treatment recommendations Case Management and Coordination Coordinate care with psychiatric staff, nursing staff, and detention personnel Participate in weekly treatment team meetings Develop discharge plans and coordinate community-based services Facilitate family contact and psychoeducation when appropriate Communicate with defense attorneys regarding participant progress when appropriate releases are in place Assist with crisis intervention and behavioral management as needed Qualifications Education and Licensure Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling, Clinical Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or related field preferred Current, unrestricted Florida license required: LMHC, LCSW, or LMFT License must be in good standing with no disciplinary actions Experience Minimum of 2 years of post-licensure clinical experience required Experience with severe and persistent mental illness, including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and psychotic disorders strongly preferred Forensic or correctional mental health experience highly desirable Group therapy facilitation experience required Experience with competency restoration or forensic populations preferred Knowledge and Skills Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills Thorough understanding of
DSM-5-TR
criteria Knowledge of evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions Excellent documentation skills and ability to write clear, timely clinical notes Understanding of competency standards and legal concepts is helpful; training will be provided Ability to work effectively with diverse and challenging populations Cultural sensitivity and strong clinical judgment Crisis intervention skills Additional Requirements Must pass a comprehensive background check and drug screening Must obtain security clearance for jail facility access CPR/First Aid certification required or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment Reliable transportation and valid Florida driver's license required Work Environment Work is performed in a secure correctional facility Daily interaction with individuals with serious mental illness and criminal charges May encounter verbally aggressive or psychotic behavior Requires sitting, standing, and walking throughout the workday Must be able to respond quickly in emergency situations Benefits Benefits will be discussed during the interview process.
