Student Worker Mental Health Peer Support Leaders Sugar Grove Campus Student Worker Hybrid Option:

Your future starts here - join us today! The Peer Leader (PSL) is a positive role model for fellow students. Peer Support Leaders earn certifications in basic mental health support, peer mentorship, and participate in additional trainings on boundaries and ethics, emergency procedure, campus and community resources, and more. Peer Support Leaders are trained in engagement skills and providing a safe and supportive space which enables them to assist students with everything from setting academic goals to navigating emotional challenges. PSL's engage with staff, faculty, and peers in classroom presentations, wellness workshops, and tabling events. Additionally, PSL's maintain and enhance the Peer Support Program Canvas Course to bring mental health awareness to campus in an asynchronous format. Peer Support Leaders work closely with the Waubonsee Counseling team to ensure that interactions with peers are safe and supportive. Responsibilities Participation in a 6-8 week core training program. Completion of a variety of outside certifications to ensure core competencies in peer mentorship and mental health support.. Meet with peers through drop-in and scheduled appointment and maintain basic notes to track appointments. Create classroom presentations and wellness workshop material on important mental health topics. Serve as a positive social and academic role model and be a resource for fellow students. Develop and maintain relationships with peers and provide assistance and support. Maintain and enhance a the Peer Support Program Canvas course which is available to faculty, staff, and students. Participate in tabling events and campus activities to promote mental well-being. Participate in formal evaluations and assessments of the program. Engage in continued training and consultation with the Waubonsee Counseling team. Minimum Qualifications Be 18 years or older Be enrolled in at least 1 credit at Waubonsee Community College Maintain a GPA of 2.0 or Above Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
Flexibility, excellent communication and organizational skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive materials. Ability to work hours per week.
