A community in which all achieve their full potential. The Crisis Center is seeking a dedicated and reliable Full-Time Family Support Specialist to join our Community-Based Services Department. This position provides services through the Truancy Termination and Homemaker/Parent-Aid programs for families involved with the Indiana Department of Child Services (DCS). The Family Support Specialist works directly with children and families to reduce truancy, strengthen parenting skills, improve school engagement, and promote long-term safety and stability. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Complete assessments and develop Family Development Plans (FDP). Provide truancy intervention, parent education, and crisis support. Teach and model parenting and homemaking skills. Collaborate with DCS, schools, probation (when applicable), and community partners. Attend Child and Family Team Meetings (CFTM) and court hearings as required. Maintain accurate and timely documentation. Provide transportation for program-related services as needed. Expectations Deliver culturally competent, trauma-informed services. Maintain professional boundaries and ethical standards. Meet DCS contract requirements and reporting deadlines. Work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, or related field required. Minimum 2+ years' experience in child welfare, behavioral health, or community-based services. Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle. Must pass a Tuberculosis (TB) test. Ability to pass National and State Criminal History Check. Fingerprint-based Background Check Child Protective Services (CPS) Background Check National Sex Offender Registry Check Local Criminal Court Records Check Work Environment This position is based at Crisis Center, Inc. with regular travel across Lake and Porter Counties. Morning, evening or weekend work may be required to meet family or program needs.
