The Department of Mental Health Services (DMHS) promotes psychological health, well-being, and success for all IUSM learners and trainees (medical and graduate students, residents, and fellows) across the state of Indiana. We deliver professional and comprehensive counseling and psychiatric services, crisis intervention, programming, consultation services, and outreach, as well as support the broader School of Medicine community and foster an environment where learners can thrive. We serve a diverse learner population of approximately 3,400 trainees statewide. DMHS is invested in providing care that is inclusive and culturally informed. Our services provide support for personal growth and development, a range of mental health and psychological concerns, and academic progress. Job Summary The Mental Health Clinician on the IUSM Mental Health Services team provides direct clinical care to medical trainees through the mental health services program at IUSM. This direct clinical care will include initial assessments, crisis counseling, crisis intervention, individual and couples psychotherapy, and psychological testing. Clinical care will encompass in-person and teletherapy services when appropriate for medical trainees at several of the IUSM regional campuses as well as at the Indianapolis campus. Department-Specific Responsibilities Advances the delivery of mental health services by the provision of triage services and communication with faculty, staff, and other referral sources. Conducts diagnostic assessments. Provides direct clinical mental health services to individuals, groups, and couples in-person and via teletherapy. Manages individual caseload to allow for incorporation of new clients in an ongoing manner. Maintains accurate, timely clinical notes, following quality improvement committee standards. Adheres to relevant ethical and legal standards of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), relevant professional bodies, and state boards. Utilizes evidence-based clinical interventions for a wide range of concerns such as mood disorders, substance use disorder, adjustment disorders, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, and anxiety disorders. Triages referrals. Provides crisis management and stabilization. Collaborates with members of the mental health services team. Consults with and refers to other professionals when appropriate (e.g., psychiatrists, medical providers, etc.). Communicates with referral sources within the IU system (program directors, lead advisors, faculty, etc.). Facilitates treatment planning including referrals to providers outside of the IU system for outpatient and in-patient care as needed; coordinates post-hospitalization care. Designs and delivers psycho-educational programming, orientation sessions and community outreach services for IUSM medical trainees, as needed. Engages in strategic planning efforts for psychoeducational, preventative mental health, and wellness initiatives. Performs other related clinical duties, as assigned. Attends DMHS clinical and staff meetings. Completes scheduling of patients and documentation of clinical work in a timely and complete manner. Provides regular reports regarding work activities to Director. Participates in administrative meetings, case conferences, clinical supervision, outreaches, collaboration with the Medical Education offices, and engagement in the development of research projects and strategic planning. Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required Master's degree in social work, mental health counseling, or related field Preferred PhD in Psychology or PsyD plus HSPP designation in the State of Indiana (or HSPP eligible with intent to complete within 6 months from date of hire)

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required Completion of master's level internship that meets licensure standards for the State of Indiana Preferred Completion of a post-doctoral clinical service under supervision of a licensed psychologist and completion of a pre-doctoral internship that meets licensure standards for the State of Indiana 4 years of experience with university-ages, graduate, medical, and diverse student populations Triage and crisis care experience

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

Required Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or equivalent in the State of Indiana or eligible for licensure within 180 days from date of hire Preferred Licensed Psychologist in the State of Indiana or eligible for licensure within 180 days from date of hire SKILLS Required Proficient in English written and verbal communication skills Maintains a high degree of professionalism Demonstrated time management and priority setting skills Demonstrates a high commitment to quality Possesses flexibility to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment Seeks to acquire knowledge in area of specialty Highly thorough and dependable Demonstrates a high level of accuracy, even under pressure Possesses a high degree of initiative Ability to influence internal and/or external constituents Excellent collaboration and team building skills Demonstrates excellent judgment and decision-making skills Demonstrated experience and expertise working with university-level and a range of student populations Preferred Ability to deliver culturally-informed care Ability to provision individual, group, and couples therapy Ability to engage in complex clinical decision-making Experience in program assessment and execution Ability to engage in collaborative work Ability to use an electronic medical record (EMR) Ability to use computer-based word processing, spreadsheet, electronic communication, database, and scheduling software Knowledge of mental health systems within the state of Indiana Working Conditions / Demands This role requires sedentary work as well as extended durations of moving about the workplace. It requires the ability to move objects and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, and the ability to discern between various objects and devices and to position patients. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
