Job Description

Position Title:
Elementary Student Support Specialist (School Counselor / Social Worker / Behaviorist) Summary of Position We are seeking a full-time Student Support Specialist to serve in one of our elementary schools. This role supports the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral development of students by identifying and addressing barriers to learning. The ideal candidate will provide a combination of counseling, behavioral support, and social-emotional interventions while working closely with students, staff, families, and community partners. This position plays a key role in supporting our MTSS framework, building positive relationships, and creating a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment for all students. Minimum Qualifications Valid Indiana license in one of the following areas: School Counselor School Social Worker Behavior Specialist / related licensure Master's Degree (preferred) in: School Counseling, Social Work, Behavior Analysis, or related field Experience working with elementary students preferred Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills Ability to build relationships and maintain confidentiality Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions (MTSS/RTI) Experience with behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and FBAs Knowledge of trauma-informed practices Experience working with diverse student populations Duties and Responsibilities Provide individual and small group counseling focused on social-emotional and behavioral needs Support students in developing self-regulation, problem-solving, and social skills Assist in developing and implementing behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and supports Participate in MTSS processes, including data review and intervention planning Collaborate with teachers to support classroom behavior and student engagement Serve as a liaison between school, home, and community resources Conduct student observations and assist with behavioral and emotional assessments Provide crisis intervention and support during critical incidents Support staff with strategies related to behavior and mental health needs Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and supports Maintain accurate and confidential records in compliance with FERPA Participate in school safety and student support planning Support students and the school community with attendance initiatives Perform other duties as assigned by administration Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong understanding of child development and elementary student needs Ability to de-escalate behaviors and support students in crisis Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills Ability to work both independently and as part of a team Organized, flexible, and solution-oriented
