This position is responsible for assisting students with any mental health concerns, including but not limited to depression, anxiety, behavioral concerns, positive behavioral support, academic and classroom support, and provides consultation with faculty and staff. The counselor will provide and oversee individual counseling as well as group sessions as needed. The counselors serve as the primary contact for students in crisis and should be available after hours (as needed). The counselors should develop and maintain a network of other community agencies and resources for students. Referrals should be made based on needs. They should work with internal and external people/agencies to develop programs or systems of care that support and enhance the health, social and emotional wellbeing, and safety of students. In addition to counseling sessions, the counselors should provide educational outreach to the greater campus community. The counselor should maintain knowledge and compliance standards related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), privileged communication, Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, and the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). The counselor may also be responsible for leading or helping with additional programming for students, participation in orientation, recruitment programs, serve on university committees, and other duties as assigned.Qualifications:
Master's degree in counseling, psychology, clinical or social work from an accredited graduate program. Must have license by the LA Board of Social Work Examiners and/or LA Board of Professional Counselors. Must have a minimum of 2-4 years of direct counseling or clinical experience, and work in a college setting is preferred. Must demonstrate high ethical standards.Office Hours:
The counselor is expected to work 40 hours a week, 8:00 - 4:30 Monday - Friday, and other hours as needed.Additional Job Description:
