Job Description

Job Summary:
Xavier University of Louisiana is accepting applications for the open position of Premed Advisor. This position is responsible for providing support to the Director of the Premedical Program in the management of the Premedical Office and the implementation of activities designed to increase the number of Xavier students who gain admission into medical, dental, veterinary, optometry, podiatry, physician assistant, and other types of health professions schools and related biomedical science programs. The Premedical Advisor reports to the Director of the Premedical Program, who is supervised by the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.
AA/EOE Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a biological science, psychology, counseling/mental health, or related education discipline. At least one (1) year of experience providing academic advising, health career counseling, and/or professional/graduate school application support to students preferably enrolled in undergraduate studies or professional/graduate school. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both group and individual settings. Ability to offer thorough and constructive feedback on application components for summer programs, health professions schools, etc. and mock interviews. Develop and implement educational and enrichment programming to reinforce advising activities that prepare students for application to health professions schools. Strong interpersonal skills for engagement with students, faculty, staff, etc. Candidate must be proficient in multitasking and possess the ability to prioritize work and perform duties with minimal supervision. Candidate must be punctual and professional at all times. Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), Adobe Professional, various data management software (e.g. FileMakerPro), Banner, and other University interfaces. Ability to utilize the World Wide Web accordingly, send and receive email messages (including attachments), and utilize other mechanisms necessary to effectively execute Premedical Office tasks is required. Must be able to effectively utilize both PC and Macintosh platforms.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in a biological science, psychology, counseling/mental health, or related education discipline. At least two (2) years of experience providing academic and/or health professions school application guidance to undergraduate students enrolled in pre-health coursework. Licensure in a counseling/mental health field.
