Why This Role Matters Veterans often face complex challenges that extend beyond clinical needs, including housing instability, trauma, isolation, and fragmented systems of care. In this role, you will provide therapeutic support and help shape how behavioral health services are delivered within VOA Michigan and the broader community. You'll be a key contributor to growing, integrated behavioral health programming—helping influence service design, strengthen partnerships, and create trauma-informed, person-centered support that truly meets people where they are. This role is ideal for a clinician who values: Whole-person, trauma-informed care Relationship-based engagement in residential and community settings Innovation, collaboration, and systems-level impact What You'll Do Provide individual and group therapy using evidence-based, trauma-informed practices Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial, mental health, and risk assessments Develop and implement person-centered, strengths-based treatment plans Facilitate therapeutic and psychoeducational groups (e.g., trauma, PTSD, substance use, coping skills, anger management) Deliver crisis intervention, safety planning, and referrals when needed Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, the VA, and community mental health partners Support staff and teams through consultation, training, and clinical guidance Assist individuals in navigating behavioral health systems and accessing psychiatric and higher levels of care Maintain timely, accurate documentation in compliance with Medicaid, VA, CARF, and agency standards Contribute to program development, evaluation, grant writing, and continuous quality improvement Help identify service gaps and implement innovative, evidence-based solutions What You Bring Independent clinical licensure in Michigan (LMSW, LLMSW, LPC, LP, LLP, or equivalent) Minimum 2 years of clinical experience with Veterans and/or adults experiencing homelessness Strong understanding of behavioral health and community-based systems of care Familiarity with military culture, PTSD, reintegration challenges, and VA services (strongly preferred) Experience with evidence-based practices such as CBT and Motivational Interviewing Ability to remain grounded, calm, and effective in crisis situations Excellent documentation, organizational, and communication skills Comfort working independently with a flexible schedule (occasional evenings/weekends) Valid Michigan Driver's License and ability to travel within the community What We Offer Full-time position Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance Generous paid time off (PTO) Supportive, mission-driven team culture Professional development, training, and growth opportunities The opportunity to shape the future of Veterans behavioral health services in Michigan Join Us If you are looking for a role where your clinical expertise, compassion, and values come together—and where your work truly matters—we invite you to join VOA Michigan and help transform how Veterans experience care, recovery, and community.
