Position End Date Position Summary The Central Michigan University Counseling Center has a full-time, 12 month, mental health counseling position available. This position is aimed at furthering the emotional health and well-being of CMU students. This is a non-teaching, fixed term faculty position.
The Counseling Center provides free and confidential, short term counseling services to currently enrolled CMU students dealing with personal issues that may negatively impact their academic success, interpersonal relationships, health, or well-being. Services are provided in person and via tele-mental health and offered in a variety of formats. The Counseling Center recognizes that each student is a unique individual with different stories, experiences, and needs. We strive to create an open, safe, and inclusive environment where students can freely explore and express all identities, beliefs, and values they hold.
This collaborative and supportive team environment offers an excellent work/life balance with a flexible work schedule and opportunities for creativity in student engagement. In addition to counseling services, this position allows for outreach across campus, collaboration with campus partners, professional development, and supervision opportunities. Estimated salary range is between $61,000 and $75,000.
Counselor responsibilities:
Provide culturally responsive and identity-informed individual, couples, and group counseling services
Provide campus outreach and prevention services
Responsible for 25 client contact hours per week, 12 paperwork hours, 1 administrative hour, and attendance at scheduled staff meetings
Provide consultation to colleagues, faculty, staff, and parents
Provide crisis intervention services during office hours
Participate in professional development within and outside of the center
Adhere to Counseling Center scope of practice and procedures
Maintain all professional, ethical, and legal standards in the State of Michigan
Maintain licensure to provide confidential mental health services in the State of Michigan and meet any related professional development requirements for that license
Create and/or coordinate social media content for the Counseling Center that supports the Counseling Center mission, vision and values
Create content for social media and other Counseling Center advertisements and promotions using CMU brand guidelines
Support and approve social media content for the COMPASS Peer Education Program students
Required Qualifications Masters or doctoral degree in counseling, clinical psychology, social work or related field
Eligibility for licensure in Michigan within one month of start date
Understanding and use of cultural humility in providing counseling services to a diverse group of students
Clinical skills related to short term counseling and crisis intervention
Ability to effectively present outreach programming on mental health topics
Experience working as part of a collaborative and team-based approach to clinical services in a fast-paced work setting
Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively, strong communication skills, as well as commitment to workplace integrity and professional ethics
Demonstrated proficiency in Adobe Express or Canva
Ability to create content in accordance with university brand guidelines
Demonstrated proficiency and understanding of Instagram as it relates to mental health and wellbeing while being mindful of the ethics of mental health care
Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation
Preferred Qualifications Full Michigan licensure
Experience and commitment to providing group counseling services and outreach programming
