This role is grounded in dignity, choice, lived experience, and the belief that recovery is possible. Position Summary The Certified Peer Support Specialist is an essential member of the recovery support team and walks alongside clients with respect, authenticity, and hope. Using peer support best practices and appropriate self-disclosure of lived experience, this position promotes self-determination, personal responsibility, wellness, community connection, and progress toward goals identified by the individual and supported through the treatment and recovery planning process. What You'll Do Build professional, peer-based relationships rooted in mutual respect, hope, equality, personal responsibility, and self-determination. Use lived experience appropriately and professionally to offer encouragement, reduce stigma, and model recovery. Support clients in identifying strengths, setting recovery goals, developing wellness skills, and connecting with natural and community supports. Provide individual and group peer support services that encourage recovery, wellness, healthy lifestyle choices, and engagement in treatment. Assist clients in building self-advocacy, coping skills, community living skills, and confidence in their recovery journey. Collaborate with clinical staff and the treatment team to support individualized treatment and recovery plans. Complete accurate and timely documentation in accordance with organizational policy, payer requirements, CARF standards, CSTAR expectations, and confidentiality requirements. Promote client rights, dignity, choice, voice, safety, and participation in services. Participate in supervision, team meetings, ongoing training, and quality improvement activities. Represent LIV Recovery's mission, values, Compliance Plan, and Standards of Conduct in all interactions. What We're Looking For High school diploma or GED required. Peer Support Training Certificate required unless the candidate is a graduate in the field of mental health studies. CPR/First Aid Certification preferred. Lived experience with substance use disorders, mental health disorders, and/or homelessness. Minimum of one year in continuous recovery. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to use basic computer systems for documentation, data entry, and information retrieval. Ability to maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality, ethical conduct, and trauma-informed interactions. Willingness to complete required orientation and ongoing training related to CARF standards, CSTAR expectations, client rights, confidentiality, documentation, ethics, and recovery-oriented peer support. CARF and CSTAR Alignment This position supports services consistent with CARF expectations for person-centered, recovery-oriented care, client rights, confidentiality, service quality, and continuous improvement. The role also supports Missouri CSTAR expectations by providing peer support services connected to the individual's treatment plan, coordinating with the treatment team, documenting services accurately and timely, and supporting client engagement, recovery goals, and continuity of care. Work Environment Ability to work in diverse environmental settings. Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time. Ability to lift 25 pounds or more.
