Job Description

Summary:
The Student Health Center Licensed Behavioral Health Counselor provides clinical mental health services to select students at the schools. Services include mental health screenings and assessments, crisis intervention, individual, group and family therapies, referral to community professionals and agencies, and consultation to and collaboration with Rockingham County Student Health Center (RCSHC) staff and school personnel. This functions as a member of the RCSHC team in meeting the objectives of the school-based health centers principles.
Responsibilities:
1. Complete behavioral health screenings and comprehensive assessments and evaluations of project enrollees as needed. Interpret findings to student and family members, as appropriate. 2. Develop treatment plans and assist in goal formulation with students; involve parent(s)/guardian(s) when appropriate. Provide individual psychotherapy and counseling, consultation to parents or guardians, and group therapy to enrollees. 3. Provide consultation to other RCSHC professionals. Consult with teachers and school staff about students' classroom management and behavioral/emotional services. Network with school personnel and community resources to coordinate referrals and services while maintaining confidentiality. 4. Advocate for students within the school and community. Report suspected child abuse, neglect, and dependency to appropriate agency. 5. Document behavioral health information in medical records according to RCSHC policies and state guidelines. Attend appropriate in-service programs and training sessions. Record findings in a systematic & accurate form in the electronic medical record per RCSHC guidelines and policies. 6. Update personal knowledge by reading, observing, attending classes and acts as a resource to staff. Contribute to program planning, evaluation and report preparation. Maintains contact with Student Health Services director regarding center activities. Employs appropriate work theories and methods in providing services to students, families, schools, and community resources. Adheres to the professional code of ethics. Support the philosophy, objectives, and policies of the Rockingham county student health centers.

Social Work or Mental Health Counseling Licensure/Certification Requirements:
• Current North Carolina license to practice as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate (LCSWA), License Professional Counselor (LPC), or Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPCA)
Professional Experience Requirements:
• No prior experience required. Experience working with school-age children, adolescents, and in family counseling preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:
• The
LCSW/LCSWA/LPC/LPCA
must demonstrate self-direction, high initiative and strong organizational skills (including how to reassess and reprioritize work, as needed). Clear verbal and written communication is essential for doing this job well. Flexibility, patience, and understanding of how to work well on a small team are required for optimal efficiency.

The
LCSW/LCSWA/LPC/LPCA
must have an understanding of the science and art of behavioral health work, especially as it applies to the provision of mental health services in a school-based health center. Understanding psychotherapy and counseling with children, adolescents and their families and understanding developmental issues across the life span are essential to the provision of these services.
