Jul 1, 2026 Job Description The Family Student Support Liaison serves as a resource for families who are experiencing homelessness as well as families who are housed but struggling financially. This person provides information to families and facilitates connection with school and community resources. The FSSL positively promotes the district's mission, accomplishments, strengths and needs through various community engagement channels. The Family Student Support Liaison must be skilled with communication strategies and building positive relationships between families, schools, and community partners. The Liaison works closely with the Office of Student Wellness, administration, school counselors, school nurses, SRO and MTSS-B teams. The position requires a working knowledge of the McKinney Vento law and its application, community resources, organization in scheduling and record keeping, coordination of transportation, flexibility to changing priorities, collaborating across agencies, and maintaining confidentiality.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Identify and provide support to families who are at risk of, or facing homelessness.
  • Provide intervention for students, families; including safety, mental health, legal issues, housing and food security.
  • Identify community agencies and programs who can provide support to families who may not be homeless, but who are battling limited financial resources, food insecurity and/or lack of basic needs in their home.
  • Collect and manage data as needed.
  • Ongoing and regular positive promotion of our district to increase community awareness of our strengths, needs and opportunities.
  • Collaborate with school and district teams and serve on relevant district committees.
  • Enhance Family Engagement in the education of disadvantaged students.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree from a recognized college or university with a major in communications, social work, special education, counseling or a related field. 2. Experience in a school setting, social work or mental health counseling, human resources or family support is preferred 3. Strong written and oral communication skills 4. Experience with managing and disseminating information
