Job Description

The Mental Health Therapist is responsible for performing client care activities/therapy as directed by Clinical Director/Executive Director. Collaborates with the Treatment Team in the formulation of the Master Treatment Plan, and assists in coordinating discharge planning. Clinician has extensive experience in CBT, DBT, Trauma-Informed therapy and EMDR. Solid knowledge of best practices, New Jersey law/ethics, and clinical outcomes.
TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Service Coordination:
Responsible for service coordination which establishes a framework of action to enable the client to achieve specified goals. It involves collaboration with the client and significant others, coordination of treatment and referral services, liaison activities with community resources and managed care systems, client advocacy, and ongoing evaluation of treatment progress and client needs. Complete necessary administrative procedures at admission to caseload; Establish accurate treatment and recovery expectations with the client including but not limited to: The nature of services Program goals Program procedures Rules regarding client conduct Schedule of treatment activities Factors affecting duration of care Client's rights and responsibilities Reassess client's needs monthly, or more frequently when significant changes have occurred; Provides required contacts, testing results and documentation for each treatment service provided Examples of Key measures Successful collaboration with client and significant others; Engagement of client in AATC programs.
Treatment Planning:
Responsible for the collaborative process in which the counselor and the client develop a written document that identifies important treatment goals, describes measurable, time sensitive action steps toward achieving those goals with expected outcomes and reflects an agreement between counselor and client. Use of relevant assessment information to guide the treatment planning process; Examine treatment options in collaboration with the client and significant others (when appropriate); Formulate mutually agreed upon and measurable treatment goals and objectives; Identify appropriate strategies for each treatment goal; Develop with the client a mutually acceptable treatment plan and method for monitoring and evaluating progress; Coordinate treatment activities and community resources in a manner consistent with the client's diagnosis and existing placement criteria; Reassess the treatment plan monthly or more frequently when indicated by changing circumstances.

Effectiveness of time and resource planning; Appropriateness of treatment plans developed; and, The meeting of deadlines set.
Counseling:
Responsible for the collaborative process that facilitates the client's progress toward mutually determined treatment goals and objectives. Counseling includes methods that are sensitive to individual client characteristics and to the influence of significant others, as well as the client's cultural and social context Establish a helping relationship with the client characterized by warmth, respect, genuineness, concreteness, and empathy; Facilitate the client's engagement in the treatment and recovery process; Promote client's knowledge, skills, and attitudes that contribute to a positive change in substance use behaviors; Encourage and reinforce client actions determined to be beneficial in progressing toward treatment goals; Work appropriately with client to recognize and discourage all behaviors inconsistent with progress toward treatment goals; Adapt counseling strategies to the individual characteristics of the client, including but not limited to disability, gender, sexual orientation, developmental level, culture, ethnicity, age, and health status; Make constructive therapeutic responses when the client's behavior is inconsistent with stated recovery goals.
Examples of Key Measures:
Quantity and quality of counseling and psychoeducational services delivered; Client outcomes (i.e. successful discharge vs. dropouts); Client's continued stay in recovery treatment; The meeting of deadlines set.
Internal and External Communication/Collaboration:
Responsible for facilitating the client's use of available support systems and community resources to meet needs identified in clinical evaluation and/or treatment planning. Additionally, responsible for ensuring that the treatment team is aware of the client's treatment goals, recovery process and to receive feedback from the treatment team as well as offering insights and feedback to the team as it relates to all agency participants. Contribute as part of the multidisciplinary team; Apply confidentiality rules and regulations appropriately; Demonstrate respect and non-judgmental attitudes toward clients in all contacts with community professionals and agencies; Exchange relevant information with the agency or professional to whom the referral is being made in a manner consistent with confidentiality rules and regulations and generally accepted professional standards of care.
Examples of Key Measures:
Size and quality of networks established Readiness of access to needed resources, quality of resources accessible, and demonstration of effective working relations; Knowledge of and access to network data base: efficiency and effectiveness of client referral; Quality of working relations: timeliness and appropriateness of consultation, the ability to cooperate and the results of collaborative efforts.
Administration:
Responsible for the accurate, timely and complete documentation of services personally delivered, as well as for ensuring that the documentation of other services accomplished is complete. This position is also responsible for issuing reports and communications that are called for in the completion of assigned duties. Responsible for the efficient operation of the site in conjunction with other team members and ensures that all client activities occur as planned. All treatment plans, progress notes, group notes, and any other documentation is completed according to policy, is legible, and reflects client participation in treatment; All reports and/or documents requested by management are accurate and timely; Ensures efficient programming occurs through volunteering coverage as needed; Anticipates the needs of the clients and the program in order to ensure effective programming.

The timely and accurate completion of treatment records and reports requested; Compliance with administrative needs and timely response to special requests; The quality and effectiveness of internal and external written communications.
Professional Responsibility:
Responsible for adhering to all applicable Federal and State laws, the professional code of ethics prescribed by the Addictions Counselor Certification/Licensure Board of New Jersey; the policies and procedures detailed in the AATC's Policy and Procedure Manual, Code of Ethics statement and the instruction provided by supervision to include alternative duties. This includes the responsibility to make no statement, or take any action that would knowingly threaten the best interests of the agency, other staff members, and/or of clients in our care. The holder of this position is also responsible for undertaking and sustaining a commitment to job related professional growth. Knowledge of and adherence to all confidentiality laws as applied to substance use; Knowledge of and adherence to the professional code of ethics of the agency and the licensing board; Development of personal, professional goals developed in conjunction with supervisor to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of programming.

Compliance with applicable regulations, codes, policies and procedures; Accommodation to changes in circumstances and supervisory direction; cooperative demeanor and open communication with colleagues and administration; The demonstration of a specific professional development plan, action against that plan, and demonstrated knowledge acquisition and skill development.
EDUCATION
: Masters Degree Required
EXPERIENCE
2 year experience in the field of Substance Abuse and/or Mental Health; Working knowledge of 12 step programming Working knowledge of PC computer programs (word, excel, etc)
QUALIFICATIONS
: LPC or LCSW required Organizational and administrative skills Able to communicate effectively (both written and oral skills) Ability to work independently Ability to work under pressure Familiarity with health and safety issues Two years Sobriety prior to application (if applicable).
