Job Description

Job Summary The Behavioral Health Counselor provides direct counseling services to individuals experiencing mental health and/or substance use concerns across outpatient and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) levels of care. This role includes assessment, treatment planning, individual and group counseling, and ongoing support to help clients improve functioning and work toward personal goals. The counselor collaborates with a multidisciplinary team and ensures services are delivered in accordance with established clinical standards, organizational policies, and regulatory requirements. Duties Conduct comprehensive assessments, including biopsychosocial evaluations and screening tools, to determine client needs and appropriate level of care. Develop, implement, and regularly update individualized treatment plans with measurable goals and interventions. Provide individual counseling services addressing mental health symptoms, substance use, trauma, and behavioral patterns. Facilitate structured group therapy sessions within an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and outpatient setting. Deliver evidence-based interventions, including CBT, MI, DBT-informed skills, and relapse prevention strategies. Provide psychoeducation on emotional regulation, coping skills, substance use, and recovery principles. Qualifications Master's degree in social work, psychology, counseling psychology or related field from an accredited institution. Valid licensure or certification as required by state law for clinical counselors or therapists.(LCSW,LMSW,LSAA, LADAC,LMHC, LPCC, LMFT) Experience working with individuals with mental health and/or substance use disorders. Experience facilitating group therapy, preferably within an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) or structured outpatient setting. Familiarity with co-occurring disorders and integrated treatment approaches. Knowledge of evidence-based practices, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills. Understanding of ASAM criteria and level-of-care determinations preferred. Strong clinical assessment, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. Ability to develop and implement effective treatment plans with measurable outcomes. Strong documentation skills consistent with medical necessity and insurance requirements. Ability to manage crisis situations, including assessment of risk related to suicidal or homicidal ideation. Effective communication and collaboration skills within a multidisciplinary team. Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) systems and basic computer applications.
Pay:
$52,000.00 - $83,200.00 per year
