$35•40/hour About the Role We are seeking a dedicated Substance Abuse Specialist to provide counseling, case management, and support services for young adults experiencing co-occurring mental health and substance use challenges. This position is part of a multidisciplinary community-based behavioral health team serving individuals with serious mental illness who require intensive support to maintain stability and independence in the community. The ideal candidate will have experience working with individuals diagnosed with serious mental illness and substance use disorders and will be passionate about delivering person-centered, recovery-oriented care. Key Responsibilities Provide counseling and support related to substance use and co-occurring disorders Plan, facilitate, and document co-occurring disorder (COD) activities Conduct substance use assessments and identify treatment needs Serve as a resource to the treatment team on substance use treatment and harm reduction approaches Research community treatment resources and coordinate referrals as appropriate Maintain an assigned caseload of clients Complete assessments and develop individualized treatment goals Coordinate access to psychiatric care, medication management, rehabilitation services, benefits, and community resources Accompany clients to appointments as needed Communicate with family members and support systems regarding client progress Maintain accurate and timely documentation Provide community-based services in homes, hospitals, residential settings, and other locations Participate in a rotating on-call schedule Qualifications Master's Degree in Social Work or Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) CASAC certification preferred Experience working with individuals with serious mental illness required Experience supporting individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders preferred Preferred Experience Substance use assessments and treatment planning Harm reduction approaches Integrated mental health and substance use treatment Trauma-informed care Motivational Interviewing Stage-wise treatment approaches for substance use and serious mental illness Technical Skills Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Outlook Ability to learn and utilize electronic health record systems and databases Work Environment Combination of field-based and office-based work Community-based services throughout Manhattan Walking and occasional stair climbing required Apply Today This is an excellent opportunity for a behavioral health professional seeking a full-time, long-term contract position with a collaborative team dedicated to supporting young adults with complex mental health and substance use needs.
