Job Description
Overview Join our dynamic team as a Counselor Trainee and embark on a rewarding journey to make a meaningful difference in mental health and behavioral support. This paid internship offers an immersive experience in clinical counseling, providing essential services to diverse populations, including children, adolescents, adults, and individuals with disabilities. You will develop foundational skills in psychotherapy, crisis intervention, and case management while working alongside experienced professionals dedicated to fostering recovery and well-being. Duties Assist licensed clinicians with conducting intake assessments, diagnostic evaluations, and patient histories using medical terminology and HIPAA-compliant documentation practices Support individual and group therapy sessions across outpatient, inpatient, or telehealth settings, utilizing techniques such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, art therapy, dance therapy, or applied behavior analysis (ABA) Participate in crisis management by responding promptly to urgent situations involving PTSD care, grief counseling, or behavioral crises with appropriate de-escalation strategies and behavior management techniques Contribute to case management activities including patient care planning, medical records documentation, ICD coding (ICD-9 & ICD-10), and data collection for clinical research projects Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on social work initiatives and special education programs for individuals with developmental disabilities or autism spectrum disorder (ASD) Engage in research activities related to mental health counseling outcomes or behavioral health interventions to enhance evidence-based practices Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations and ensure accurate medical documentation while respecting patient confidentiality at all times Experience Demonstrated interest or experience in psychotherapy, mental health counseling, or social work preferred Familiarity with crisis intervention techniques and crisis management protocols in clinical or hospital settings is advantageous Exposure to working with children, adolescents, or individuals with disabilities—especially within outpatient or inpatient environments—is highly desirable Knowledge of medical terminology related to behavioral health and familiarity with ICD coding systems (ICD-9 & ICD-10) is beneficial Experience with telehealth platforms or remote patient engagement tools is a plus Strong communication skills combined with a compassionate approach to patient care are essential Prior involvement in clinical research or data collection projects related to mental health is a valuable asset This paid internship provides an excellent foundation for aspiring counselors seeking hands-on experience in diverse clinical settings.
