Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Addiction Counselor to join our dynamic behavioral health team. In this vital role, you will provide comprehensive addiction counseling services to individuals struggling with substance use and behavioral health issues. Your expertise will help clients navigate their recovery journey through evidence-based practices, empathetic support, and personalized treatment plans. Responsibilities Conduct thorough patient assessments to evaluate addiction severity, mental health status, and treatment needs using diagnostic tools and clinical judgment. Develop and implement individualized treatment plans incorporating psychotherapy, motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and behavioral management techniques. Facilitate individual and group counseling sessions focused on addiction recovery, relapse prevention, and mental health support. Engage in crisis intervention to manage acute behavioral health episodes, ensuring patient safety and stabilization. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including social workers, medical staff, family members, and community resources to coordinate care plans. Maintain accurate medical documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations and ensure timely updates of medical records using appropriate ICD coding (ICD-9/10). Participate in ongoing training related to addiction medicine, trauma-informed care such as PTSD management, research updates, and best practices in behavioral health. Experience Proven experience in addiction counseling or clinical mental health counseling within hospital or community settings. Strong background in psychotherapy modalities including motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), applied behavior analysis (ABA), and behavior management strategies. Familiarity with crisis management protocols and crisis intervention techniques for behavioral health emergencies. Experience working with diverse populations including children & families, individuals with PTSD or trauma histories, and patients requiring home & community care services. Knowledge of medical terminology, medical documentation standards, ICD coding systems (ICD-9/10), and HIPAA compliance requirements. Demonstrated ability to perform patient assessments, case management duties, and diagnostic evaluations effectively. Skills in data collection for research purposes or quality improvement initiatives are a plus.
