We're distinguished by our belief in every student who walks through our doors, our strong code of conduct and commitment to peace that ensures a safe environment for all, our sense of family throughout our community, and our joyous and engaged classrooms that focus on academic achievement. About the team Freire Charter High School is actively interviewing for a staff member to serve as a full time dean and athletic director. For this position, you'll be working at Freire Charter High School in Center City, Philadelphia. Philadelphia Magazine recently named Freire Charter High School (#18) among the top high schools in Philadelphia. While we're proud of our accomplishments, we're not bound by tradition—if something isn't working, we take a proactive, solutions-oriented approach. Since Freire's founding in 1999, our network has achieved strong outcomes for students through a rigorous college-preparatory program and a deep commitment to peace, within our walls and beyond. Freire Charter High School (9-12): 2027 Chestnut St, Philadelphia, PA 19103 What you'll do Our Supervising Clinician will report directly to our Director of Emotional Supports, a licensed professional counselor with over 10 years experience as well as PA certification as a school counselor. You will be working on a salaried, part-time basis within our school-based mental health program that provides clinical counseling to young people on a long-term and drop-in basis. Our team includes graduate level interns from different universities in the Philadelphia area. Your role will be to work alongside the Director of Emotional Supports to supervise interns, review clinical notes, and assist in other program duties. Some duties must be performed on site at Freire Charter High School, but some intern supervision can also be provided virtually over Zoom. A consistent on site vs. remote time schedule will be coordinated with the Director of Emotional Support. Responsibilities Provide clinical site supervision to interns from graduate programs in counseling, social work, and creative and performing arts therapies Meet regularly with Director of Emotional Support to review intern progress and address programmatic concerns Complete university evaluations for assigned supervisees and coordinate with Director to ensure that all required paperwork is completed related to interns Be present for an annual intern onboarding, taking place in mid-to-late August prior to the start of school Review clinical notes and monitor session frequency to ensure that interns are up-to-date with paperwork and that Freire students are receiving consistent support from the ES program Identify and share external trainings or resources relevant to interns or the wider ES program Meet with Freire admin and other staff as needed Attend schoolwide professional development sessions when requested to do so by the Director of Emotional Support Generally assist in the development and implementation of the Emotional Support program Be available for limited summer responsibilities as needed (less than 10 hours per month) Who you are As an established professional in the field, you are willing to think outside the box and explore possibilities for clinical work in a school-based community mental health setting. You are looking for additional part-time work that is impactful and supports the development of students and emerging clinicians. You have a vision of counseling and therapy that understands the interconnectedness of healing and liberation. You are a clinician who understands the centrality of relationships and relatedness to counseling work, which includes the process of identifying, setting, and maintaining healthy and appropriate boundaries. You are grounded in or sympathetic to humanistic modalities of treatment, while being open to the insights of other techniques. You have experience and training in the treatment of trauma and complex trauma, and are mindful of the effects of secondary trauma on those leading treatment. You avoid pathologizing and are willing to conceptualize clients at a deeper level than superficial diagnosis. You are able to approach clinical work dialectically: you recognize that while clients may be seeking to change behaviors that are harmful, self-destructive, or life-limiting, those behaviors are also rooted in how those clients survived and are connected to core needs and aspects of self that have to be accounted for in the therapeutic process. You are rigorously ethical in your practice and see clinical ethics not as a narrow code of rules to follow, but as a living framework designed to limit harm to clients and clinicians. You are willing to identify and interrogate circumstances where different ethical prerogatives come into tension as a regular part of your practice and bring these concerns openly into supervision. You are also willing to extend your vision of ethical practice into striving for accountability to the specific needs of those harmed by systems of socioeconomic violence or exploitation. Finally, you are passionate about supporting the development of new clinicians with patience, encouragement, and rigorous accountability. You are willing to provide feedback that is honest and constructive. You are empathetic to the struggles of interns, supporting them in identifying their personal limits, strengths, and are passionate about helping them become the clinician that they are trying to be. You will use a critical eye to discern impacts of secondary trauma on members of the team and are willing to share any concerns with the Director in a timely fashion. You are willing to name and explore dynamics of countertransference in a way that normalizes that all clinicians must navigate the complexities of their personal selves in session, and that this is critical to the process. Minimum requirements Current licensure in PA as a Professional Counselor, Clinical Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist, or a licensure in related mental health field Clinical experience working with youth Strong analytical skills and keen attention to detail Ability to complete projects in a timely manner and adhere to numerous deadlines Demonstrates flexibility and maintains confidentiality Pay and benefits This role requires a minimum commitment of 10-16 hours per week, with salary scaled towards hours on site. We offer a competitive salary based on your experience and qualifications. Benefits are not included with this part-time position. Freire Schools is committed to maintaining a workplace environment that is free from all forms of discrimination and discriminatory harassment, in service of the policy goal to provide all persons equal access to all categories of employment regardless of a person's actual or perceived race, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender (including gender identity and expression), age, creed, religion, ancestry, national origin, ethnic background, marital status, pregnancy or related conditions, disability, veteran/military status, or any other category protected by state or federal law.
