Job Description

Job Description The Counselor-Mental Health and Crisis Intervention Specialist is a full-time, 12-month position working at campus locations in Anson and Union counties, NC, with occasional remote options. Under the direction of the Director of Student Wellness and Advocacy/Title IX Coordinator, the Counselor-Mental Health and Crisis Intervention Specialist supports college retention efforts by providing short-term clinical counseling and holistic student support to promote academic success, personal growth, and equitable access for all students, including those with disabilities. This position focuses on academic counseling, personal counseling, short-term mental health counseling, crisis intervention, advocacy services related to student concerns, and connecting students to appropriate campus and community resources. Essential Duties Summary Provide academic counseling to students on academic probation to assist in developing educational plans, completing course registrations, setting goals, and navigating academic policies and procedures Offer personal counseling and short-term mental health support to students experiencing emotional, behavioral, or situational challenges Conduct crisis assessment, intervention, and stabilization for students in distress and make referrals to local community mental health providers when long-term or specialized services are needed Utilize technology and multiple student information platforms to document services, maintain accurate records, monitor student progress, and communicate with stakeholders Maintain accurate and confidential records in accordance with institutional policy and federal guidelines Collaborate with counselors in Student Wellness, Advocacy, and Support to develop and provide workshops, trainings, and outreach initiatives focused on mental health awareness, stress management, wellness, and resilience Maintain integrity of the institution through accountability, accuracy, and ethical behavior Participate in departmental meetings, training, and professional development to maintain current knowledge of best practices in higher education counseling Work variable schedule, if needed, including evenings and/or weekends Perform other duties as assigned Required Qualifications Master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field from an accredited institution Licensure in a mental health discipline such as: Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), National Certified Counselor (NCC), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) Experience providing academic, personal, or student support services in an educational, clinical, or community setting Knowledge of student development, crisis intervention, and community resources Ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations and maintain confidentiality Preferred Qualifications Experience working in a community college or higher education setting Experience in crisis response and trauma-informed practices Familiarity with case management systems, and student information systems Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills Bilingual or multilingual communication skills
