Part-time Job Summary:
Family Support Specialist Help Families Find Hope, Support, and Connection St. Mary's hospital is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Family Peer Support Specialist to join our behavioral health team. This unique role is designed for an individual who has lived experience raising or caring for a child with mental health, behavioral health, or emotional challenges. Through sharing their own experiences and recovery journey, the Family Peer Support Specialist provides encouragement, guidance, advocacy, and support to families navigating similar challenges. The ideal candidate understands the complexities of accessing services, supporting a child's wellness, and advocating for family needs. Most importantly, they believe that families can thrive when provided with the right support, resources, and hope. Position Summary The Family Peer Support Specialist partners with parents and caregivers to help them build confidence, strengthen coping skills, access resources, and effectively support their child's behavioral health journey. This role promotes family-driven, strengths-based, and recovery-oriented care while serving as a valued member of the behavioral health team. Essential Responsibilities Provide emotional support, encouragement, and mentorship to parents and caregivers Share lived experiences in a professional and purposeful manner to foster hope and resilience Build trusting relationships with families and caregivers Help families navigate behavioral health systems, services, and community resources Support parents in identifying and achieving goals for themselves and their children Assist families in developing coping strategies and problem-solving skills Empower caregivers to advocate for their child's needs and preferences Promote family-driven and person-centered care Facilitate peer support groups and family-focused activities as needed Collaborate with behavioral health providers and community partners Maintain accurate and timely documentation of services provided Support and uphold the mission and values of Covenant Health Ministry Perform other duties consistent with the role Qualifications Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong communication and active listening skills Ability to build rapport and establish healthy professional boundaries Compassion, empathy, and respect for diverse family experiences Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism Knowledge of community resources and support services, or willingness to learn Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English Valid driver's license and reliable transportation Education and Experience Lived experience as a parent, guardian, or primary caregiver of a child with mental health, behavioral health, or emotional challenges High school diploma or GED required Some college coursework preferred Training Requirements Completion of a state-approved Family Peer Support training program preferred Candidates who are not currently trained or certified must be willing to complete state-recommended Family Peer Support training within six months of hire Why Join Covenant Health Ministry?
