We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern (RMHCI) to join our expanding team. We are seeking a dedicated and motivated Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern (RMHCI) to join our team as a 1099 contractor. This dynamic role offers an exciting opportunity for aspiring mental health professionals to gain hands-on experience in a clinical setting, providing vital support to diverse populations. As an RMHCI intern, you will assist licensed clinicians in delivering comprehensive mental health services, including individual and group therapy, crisis intervention. Your energetic approach will help foster positive outcomes for clients while enhancing your professional growth in behavioral health and clinical counseling. Duties Support licensed mental health professionals in conducting intake assessments, diagnostic evaluations, and treatment planning using ICD-9 and ICD-10 coding systems. Assist in delivering evidence-based therapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, art therapy, dance therapy, and applied behavior analysis tailored to client needs. Engage in direct support activities including crisis management, behavior management, grief counseling, PTSD care, and working with individuals with developmental disabilities or autism spectrum disorder. Participate in telehealth sessions utilizing HIPAA-compliant platforms to provide accessible mental health care remotely. Document patient care accurately within medical records, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations and medical terminology standards. Contribute to clinical research projects by collecting data, supporting behavioral health studies, and assisting with medical documentation related to mental health diagnoses. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on case management efforts for inpatient and outpatient clients across pediatrics, geriatrics, special education, and community settings. Qualifications Currently enrolled in or recently completed a master's or doctoral program in counseling, social work, psychology, or a related field with an emphasis on mental health counseling. Demonstrated knowledge of psychotherapy modalities including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, addiction counseling, grief counseling, and trauma-informed care such as PTSD treatment. Experience or familiarity with crisis intervention strategies and crisis management protocols. Strong understanding of
ICD-9/ICD-10
coding systems for diagnostic evaluation and medical documentation. Prior telehealth experience preferred; excellent communication skills essential for virtual patient engagement. Ability to work effectively with children, individuals with disabilities—including autism—and diverse populations across outpatient and inpatient settings. Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and medical terminology related to behavioral health services. Compassionate attitude combined with strong organizational skills to support patient assessment, case management, group therapy facilitation, and direct support activities.
