Provide short-term mental health counseling for CTC students and employees on a range of topics to include but not be limited to drug and alcohol, PTSD, depression, anxiety, trauma, stress management, suicide prevention, and academic adjustments. The counselor will also assist with initiatives, workshops, presentations and group counseling/ support offered by Wellness & Counseling Services and will serve on CTC committees and participate in campus events as needed.
Education and Experience :
A Masters Degree from a US regionally or nationally accredited institution of higher learning in psychology, counseling, social work, or related field is required. Must have an LPC or LCSW license. Minimum of 1-year professional work experience in an educational, healthcare or social services agency. Prefer 2 years of experience working as a counselor in a similar setting (college, mental health clinic, rehabilitation center, social service agency). Related volunteer experience will be considered.
Knowledge Skills and Ability :
Demonstrate strong organizational abilities, especially related to record-keeping and meeting management. Ability and willingness to work with a high energy level and as a team member. Ability to conduct group and individual sessions under the supervision of the Director of Wellness and Counseling Services. Ability to inspire a campus-wide commitment to wellness and mental health in the planning, promotion, execution, and evaluation of programs and support services. Ability to make effective referrals to other CTC and community offices and services in order to appropriately and effectively case-manage clients. Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with students, colleagues, and employees of Central Texas College, and the community at large. Ability to work on Central Campus location
Essential Functions:
Provide crisis intervention, short-term counseling and referrals for students and employees. Educate employees and students on relevant mental health topics such as depression, anxiety, substance abuse, suicide prevention, trauma, anger management, stress management and more. Participate in and coordinate support groups. Develop working relationships with local community agencies for referral of clients whose needs lie outside the services of CTC. Maintain confidentiality. Participate in campus activities. Participate in Student Success and Persistence events, activities and committees and be an advocate for student success. Perform other duties as assigned.
