  • Full-time Job Overview We are seeking a compassionate, skilled, and motivated Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) to join our Mental Health Partial Hospitalization Program (MHPHP) team.
In this vital role, the QMHP provides direct therapeutic and rehabilitative mental health services to adults experiencing significant psychiatric symptoms, emotional dysregulation, functional impairment, and behavioral health challenges that require intensive structured treatment but do not require inpatient hospitalization. The QMHP will support individuals through comprehensive assessments, treatment planning, psychoeducational group facilitation, crisis intervention, skill-building, care coordination, and discharge planning. This position plays a critical role in helping individuals achieve psychiatric stabilization, improve emotional regulation, strengthen coping skills, and reduce the need for higher levels of care such as inpatient hospitalization or emergency services. This position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact by working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary behavioral health team to support recovery, resilience, and long-term community stability. Key Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments, behavioral health screenings, and ongoing clinical observations to identify individuals' mental health needs, symptoms, strengths, and barriers to recovery. Assist in the development, implementation, and ongoing review of individualized treatment plans that align with clinical recommendations, physician orders, and person-centered goals. Provide direct mental health support services including psychoeducation, therapeutic skill-building, emotional regulation coaching, and recovery-oriented interventions. Facilitate and co-facilitate structured therapeutic groups focused on topics such as coping skills, emotional regulation, relapse prevention, stress management, communication, trauma recovery, and independent functioning. Monitor individuals daily for changes in psychiatric presentation, mood instability, safety concerns, decompensation, or crisis symptoms, and communicate findings to licensed clinical staff promptly. Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation support for individuals experiencing acute emotional distress, suicidal ideation, panic symptoms, or behavioral escalation. Coordinate care with the interdisciplinary treatment team, including psychiatrists, nurses, LMHPs, therapists, case managers, family members, and community providers to ensure continuity of care. Support medication education and treatment adherence by reinforcing psychoeducation provided by medical and clinical staff. Assist individuals with linkage to community resources including outpatient therapy, psychiatry, housing resources, vocational supports, peer recovery supports, and case management services. Participate in treatment team meetings, case staffing, utilization review processes, and discharge planning to support successful transition to lower levels of care. Complete accurate, timely, and compliant documentation including progress notes, group notes, treatment plan updates, crisis documentation, and discharge summaries in accordance with agency, Medicaid, DMAS, DBHDS, and HIPAA requirements. Maintain therapeutic boundaries and provide services using trauma-informed, person-centered, culturally responsive, and recovery-oriented practices. Requirements Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) credential, or eligibility to register as a QMHP in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Bachelor's degree in psychology, counseling, social work, human services, or a related behavioral health field required; Master's degree preferred. Minimum of 1-2 years of experience working with adults with serious mental illness, co-occurring disorders, trauma, mood disorders, psychosis, or behavioral health challenges preferred. Experience in partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), crisis stabilization, community mental health, psychiatric rehabilitation, or similar behavioral health settings preferred. Knowledge of psychiatric diagnoses, symptom presentation, crisis intervention techniques, and evidence-based behavioral health interventions. Strong understanding of recovery-oriented care, trauma-informed practices, suicide risk awareness, and de-escalation strategies. Knowledge of Medicaid documentation requirements, treatment planning, and behavioral health compliance standards including DBHDS and DMAS regulations preferred. Excellent communication, documentation, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced multidisciplinary treatment environment while maintaining professionalism and compassion. Preferred Skills Group facilitation Crisis intervention Behavioral de-escalation Treatment planning Clinical documentation Care coordination Psychoeducation Motivational interviewing Trauma-informed care Recovery support Join our team and help empower individuals on their path toward psychiatric stability, recovery, and improved quality of life through compassionate, high-quality behavioral healthcare.
