Our five programs provide solutions for shelter, recovery services, workforce development, and the furniture bank. The CARITAS Emergency Shelter, as of the five programs of this thriving non-profit, provides compassionate hospitality to those experiencing homelessness in our region. Services are offered to both men and women on our Richmond campuses and basic needs such as shelter, meals, clothing, and connections to supportive services are provided. We take an integrated approach to helping people solve their housing crisis by connecting them with a housing specialist. This position provides supervision and guidance in the shelter environment and works alongside housing specialists, volunteers, and other CARITAS staff.
Position Summary:
Serves as part of a dynamic and compassionate team to provide trauma informed care to all participants. Provide direct supervision of emergency shelter and facilitate a safe environment by compassionately enforcing program guidelines and policies. Engage with participants in a person-centered, trauma informed manner. Support in overseeing and facilitating daily shelter events and participant onsite appointments. Assist in the complete shift checklist of assigned duties during shift. Engage interns and volunteers as needed. Encourage participants to engage in their housing plan. Apply de-escalation techniques when necessary and support during crisis intervention. Use Google Workspace to facilitate communication within the team. Be trained on Lead Staff job duties in case coverage is needed, including shift reports and documentation. Participate in staff meetings and trainings. Complete assigned mandatory trainings to increase skills and knowledge. Serve as on call for shifts that need coverage.
Qualifications:
Punctual and reliable, with reliable transportation Ability to know and follow job expectations related to shift worked, including able to professional blend with program participants and other shelter staff. Skilled in conflict resolution, de-escalation methods, and in trauma informed care. Good oral and written communications skills. Valid T.B. test within 2 weeks of being hired. Current CPR and Naloxone certification required within 1 month of being hired. Ability to lift 10lbs.
