  • Child & Family Focus will primarily provide evidence-based mental health treatment and assessment services to children ages 5 and older, adolescents, and their caregivers within military-connected families.
This role focuses on supporting children and families experiencing challenges related to a wide variety of mental health needs. The clinician will provide individual, family, and caregiver-focused therapy utilizing developmentally appropriate, trauma-informed, and evidence-based approaches. The ideal candidate will have experience engaging children and adolescents in therapeutic settings while collaborating closely with caregivers, schools, medical providers, and community supports to strengthen outcomes for youth and families. The Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic maintains a strong commitment to evidence-based practices, clinical consultation, professional development, and measurement-based care. Clinicians receive support and training opportunities in evidence-based interventions relevant to child and family mental health treatment. What you will do Provide evidence-based mental health treatment and assessment services for children ages 5+, adolescents, military-connected families, and caregivers. Deliver developmentally appropriate individual, family, and caregiver-focused therapy services. Utilize trauma-informed and evidence-based interventions to support children experiencing emotional, behavioral, social, and adjustment-related challenges. Conduct psychosocial assessments, screenings, treatment planning, progress documentation, and referrals as needed. Support children and families navigating challenges related to military transitions, deployment, reintegration, grief, trauma exposure, school difficulties, and family stressors. Collaborate with caregivers, schools, physicians, psychiatrists, case managers, and multidisciplinary treatment team members to coordinate care and improve outcomes. Conduct clinical intake assessments as assigned. Participate in weekly clinical supervision, consultation, training, and administrative meetings. Provide services through telehealth and in-person platforms as needed. Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with clinical, ethical, and regulatory standards. Work 2-3 late evenings per week to accommodate children and families' schedules. Assist with community outreach and relationship-building efforts with schools, pediatric providers, military family supports, and youth-serving organizations. Perform other duties as assigned. What's required. Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience working with children, adolescents, and families. Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, or related behavioral health field.
Active Virginia licensure as:
Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW); Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC); or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) Experience providing therapy to children ages 5+ and adolescents is required. Knowledge of DSM-5 diagnoses and evidence-based treatment approaches for common childhood and adolescent mental health concerns. Experience utilizing evidence-based interventions such as CBT, TF-CBT, play-based interventions, family systems approaches, or other child-focused modalities. Strong understanding of child development, family dynamics, trauma, and attachment. Experience working with military-connected children and families preferred. Ability to engage children and caregivers in a compassionate, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed manner. Excellent communication, organization, and documentation skills. Working knowledge of Outlook, Word, Excel, and electronic health record systems. Must meet background check requirements. Must possess a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and maintain a working cell phone. Ability and willingness to travel locally as needed.
