Job Description

Mental Health Support Companion / Peer Mentor About the Role We are seeking a compassionate, reliable, and emotionally grounded individual to provide 1:1 support for a young adult client navigating ongoing complex mental health challenges. This is a meaningful opportunity to build a supportive relationship while helping someone remain engaged, structured, active, and connected in daily life and the community. The ideal candidate has a background or strong interest in mental health and is pursuing (or planning to pursue) a career in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a related field. This role is especially well-suited for someone seeking hands-on experience in a supportive, relationship-centered environment and who has experience with acute mental health conditions, particularly psychosis. Compensation & Schedule $30-40/hour
DOE Location:
Bellevue, WA Approximately 15-20 hours per week depending on availability and fit Primarily weekday support with some flexibility Occasional evenings, weekends, or overnight support when family is away

Private household, managed by redpoint Seattle Responsibilities Provide consistent companionship, emotional support, encouragement, and accountability. Build rapport and engage meaningfully with the client in both home and community settings Support participation in healthy routines, movement, structure, enrichment activities, and community engagement Assist with activities of daily living and independent living skills, including: Grocery shopping and errands Housekeeping and organization Scheduling and appointment tracking Transportation-related support Teach and model healthy communication, coping strategies, emotional regulation, and positive behaviors Facilitate conversation, social connection, and recreational activities Periodically check in regarding upcoming appointments and help ensure they are added to the client's schedule Maintain a calm, supportive, consistent environment while respecting autonomy and healthy boundaries Complete documentation and maintain timely, professional communication as needed Maintain the highest standards of professionalism, confidentiality, discretion, and ethical client care Ideal Candidate Patient, dependable, adaptable, and emotionally attuned Strong interpersonal and communication skills Comfortable supporting individuals experiencing significant mental health challenges; experience with psychosis preferred Able to maintain healthy boundaries while building rapport and trust Interested in mental health, behavioral health, psychology, counseling, social services, or related fields Comfortable adapting to varying support needs and energy levels Positive, grounded, organized, and proactive Able to work independently while maintaining professionalism and accountability Qualifications Experience working with young adults or adults experiencing mental health challenges preferred Experience handling confidential information and maintaining HIPAA-level discretion preferred Bachelor's degree in health or social sciences preferred (or equivalent education and/or experience) Prior experience in caregiving, peer support, behavioral health, social services, or related work Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain accurate documentation Reliable transportation required Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during community activities and outings Physical Demands While performing the duties of this role, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, stand, walk, and accompany the client during community outings and activities, which may involve extended periods of movement.
