As a live-in counselor, you will provide peer-led guidance, crisis intervention, and mentorship to residents, helping them develop coping skills and achieve stability. This rewarding position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in people's lives while working within a collaborative and dynamic setting. Responsibilities Reside on-site and monitor and support residents, responding to needs and incidents as they arise Oversee adherence to house rules, cleanliness standards, curfews, and safety protocols Conduct regular walkthroughs of common areas and resident spaces to ensure a safe, well-maintained environment Facilitate and document room checks, sign-in/sign-out logs, visitor policies, and other compliance requirements Orient new residents to house expectations, program structure, and community agreements Coordinate with administrative staff regarding maintenance needs and facility concerns Model and reinforce a culture of recovery, respect, and personal responsibility within the house Provide peer-level mentorship through authentic, non-judgmental relationships with residents Support residents in maintaining their recovery, following treatment plans, and meeting program milestones Assist residents in developing daily routines, independent living skills, and healthy habits Encourage engagement in outpatient programming, support groups, and community recovery activities Address rule violations or recovery concerns promptly, documenting and escalating to clinical staff as appropriate Qualifications Valid Washington State driver's license with a clean driving record Minimum 1 year of experience in a residential, supportive housing, recovery coaching, or related setting Direct experience supporting individuals with substance use disorders, mental health conditions, or housing instability Willingness to obtain Washington State Peer Support Counselor Certification within 3 months of hire (sponsorship available) Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain clear professional boundaries Basic computer proficiency and comfort with electronic documentation Commitment to HIPAA compliance and client confidentiality
Preferred:
Washington State Peer Support Counselor Certification already obtained Prior live-in residential counselor experience in a supportive housing program Lived experience in recovery (strongly valued) Familiarity with WAC regulations applicable to behavioral health residential programs Skills Strong crisis intervention skills with the ability to manage high-pressure situations calmly and effectively. Expertise in crisis management techniques tailored to behavioral health and mental health crises. Knowledge of behavioral health principles, mental health counseling practices, and addiction counseling strategies. Proven mentoring abilities with a compassionate approach to supporting individuals through recovery journeys. Familiarity with social work practices and the ability to coordinate care with multidisciplinary teams. Proficiency in motivational interviewing techniques to foster motivation for change among residents. Experience using Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems for documentation and case management purposes.
