The Clinician provides trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and client-centered behavioral health services to individuals experiencing homelessness. The role focuses on clinical assessments, individual and group therapy, care coordination, and crisis intervention to promote housing stability, mental health recovery, and community integration.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical Services Conduct biopsychosocial assessments within required timelines to inform treatment planning. Develop individualized treatment and care plans with measurable, time-bound goals. Provide individual and group therapy, using evidence-based practices such as CBT, MI, or trauma-informed care. Deliver crisis intervention and risk assessments, including suicide risk, safety planning, and psychiatric evaluationsas needed. Coordinate psychiatric referrals, medication management follow-up, and behavioral health linkages. Document clinical services in compliance with HSH and Medi-Cal standards. Case Collaboration & Support Participate in multidisciplinary care team meetings with case managers, housing navigators, and health providers to ensure coordinated service delivery. Support the Housing First approach, maintaining focus on harm reduction and voluntary service engagement. Provide clinical consultation and training to shelter staff and interns regarding mental health symptoms, de escalation, and trauma-informed engagement. Attend client case conferences and support discharge planning with appropriate linkages to community mental health providers. Documentation & Compliance Maintain accurate, timely documentation in CHAMP, HMIS, and agency databases. Complete progress notes, assessments, treatment plans, and discharge summaries per regulatory timelines. Track all clinical outcomes, encounters, and interventions for monthly reporting. Ensure client files and documentation are HIPAA-compliant and audit-ready. Trauma-Informed Care Apply trauma-informed practices to all interactions with participants, ensuring that services are delivered without reinforcing stigma or shame and are adapted to the evolving needs of each individual. Emergency Response Be prepared to handle emergencies related to health, safety, or behavioral issues, administering basic first aid if required, and following shelter emergency protocols.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Licensure Master's degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, or a related field required. Registered Associate (ASW, AMFT, APCC) or fully licensed (LCSW, LMFT, LPCC) in the state of California. BBS registration in good standing. Experience Minimum 2 years of experience providing clinical services to vulnerable populations, preferably individuals experiencing homelessness, co-occurring disorders, or post-incarceration. Experience with HSH, DHS, DMH, or LAHSA-funded programs preferred. Proficiency in electronic health records and documentation systems. Skills & Abilities Strong understanding of trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and behavioral health integration. Ability to manage a clinical caseload of 20 clients and meet documentation deadlines. Skilled in conflict resolution, motivational interviewing, and de-escalation strategy.
