The Opportunity:
Whittier Street Health Center is seeking a full-time Early Childhood Behavioral Health Specialist to join our Pediatrics/Behavioral Health team. This role is an integral part of our pediatric primary care practice, providing behavioral health consultation and early childhood developmental support for children ages 0-5 and their families. You'll partner closely with pediatric providers to promote healthy child development, strengthen family relationships, provide brief interventions, connect families with community resources, and improve access to behavioral health services while advancing health equity across Boston's diverse communities.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct developmental, behavioral, and social-emotional screenings for children ages 0-5. Provide brief behavioral health consultations, parent coaching, and evidence-based interventions. Educate parents and caregivers on child development and positive parenting strategies. Coordinate referrals to behavioral health, Early Intervention, and community resources. Collaborate with pediatric providers and care teams to deliver family-centered care. Build relationships with community partners to strengthen family support services. Maintain accurate documentation, HealthySteps data, and program reporting. Participate in HealthySteps implementation, quality improvement, and professional development.
Qualifications:
Master's degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, Marriage & Family Therapy, Psychology, Child Development, or a related behavioral health field. Current Massachusetts LCSW required. Two or more years of experience supporting young children (ages 0-5) and families in healthcare, behavioral health, early intervention, or community settings. Knowledge of early childhood development, infant mental health, trauma-informed care, and family-centered practices. Experience with developmental screenings, parent coaching, and care coordination. Experience in pediatric primary care, integrated healthcare, community health, or public health preferred. Proficiency with Electronic Health Records (EHR) and Microsoft Office. Strong communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills. Ability to work effectively with interdisciplinary teams and diverse populations. BLS certification preferred (or ability to obtain before starting). Ability to complete HealthySteps certification upon hire, if not already certified. Join Our Team!
