The Opportunity:
Whittier Street Health Center is seeking a full-time Manager of Behavioral Health
  • Adult & Substance Use Services to join our Behavioral Health team.
In this leadership position, you will oversee our adult behavioral health and substance use disorder programs while maintaining an active clinical caseload. You will supervise clinicians and support staff, lead program development, ensure regulatory compliance, and advance integrated behavioral health services that improve outcomes for our diverse patient population. This position is approximately 70% direct clinical care and 30% administrative leadership, offering the opportunity to provide hands-on patient care while leading a multidisciplinary team dedicated to advancing health equity and delivering high-quality, patient-centered care throughout Boston's communities.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide clinical supervision, mentoring, and coaching to behavioral health clinicians, recovery coaches, outreach staff, and case managers. Maintain an active outpatient behavioral health and substance use disorder caseload. Oversee patient care from outreach and intake through discharge while ensuring high-quality, patient-centered services. Ensure compliance with BSAS, Joint Commission, state, federal, and organizational regulations. Lead program development and quality improvement initiatives for adult behavioral health and substance use services. Co-lead the organization's Narcotics Committee with the Medical Director and support opioid misuse prevention initiatives. Facilitate multidisciplinary team meetings and collaborate closely with primary care providers and community partners. Assist with staff recruitment, onboarding, training, performance management, and ongoing professional development.
Qualifications:
Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or another behavioral health-related field. Current Massachusetts LADC or CADC certification required. Massachusetts independent clinical licensure (LICSW, LMHC, LMFT, Psychologist, or equivalent) preferred. Minimum of 2 years of experience providing behavioral health and/or substance use disorder treatment. Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience leading clinical and support staff. Strong knowledge of co-occurring disorders, recovery-oriented care, and integrated behavioral health models. Experience working in a community health center, outpatient behavioral health program, or multicultural healthcare setting preferred. Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills. Why Whittier Street Health Center?
