Job Description

OVERVIEW
The Massachusetts Laborers' Benefit Funds ("MLBF"), located in Burlington, MA, is currently seeking a licensed independent Behavioral Health Clinician as an addition to the Health & Welfare Fund's LEAN (Laborers Escaping Adversity Now) program . MLBF is a mission driven organization dedicated to providing exceptional and meaningful benefits to improve the lives of hardworking union laborers and their families in Massachusetts and Northern New England. Our LEAN peer support program was created to support our members and their eligible dependents on their path to recovery. We are now looking to expand the program with clinical support for the behavioral health needs of our members and dependents.
POSITION DESCRIPTON
: The Laborers' Behavioral Health Clinician serves as the primary clinical resource for laborers and their eligible family members experiencing mental health conditions. The Clinician provides clinical assessment, short-term clinical interventions, care coordination, crisis response, and support in collaboration with the Laborers' Recovery Specialists, Fund Office staff, and the Fund's contracted behavioral health vendor. This position supplements and strengthens the peer recovery program by offering licensed clinical expertise, evidence-based care planning, and professional judgement to ensure that members and dependents receive appropriate, timely, and coordinated behavioral health services within their benefit structure. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
: Clinical Assessment and Intervention
  • Serve as a primary clinical resource for members and their dependents seeking behavioral health services.
  • Conduct behavioral health screenings, assessments, and clinical evaluations to determine appropriate levels of care within the contracted network.
  • Provide crisis intervention support, including risk assessment, safety planning, and coordination with emergency services when necessary.
  • Provide short-term, solution-focused clinical interventions consistent with scope of licensure and best practices.
  • Provide clinical consultation and guidance to Fund Office staff and Recovery Specialists as appropriate. Care Coordination and Navigation
  • Collaborate closely with the Laborers' Recovery Specialist to support members engaged in recovery services and ensure coordinated, member-centered care.
  • Assist members and families with navigation and access to covered behavioral health services, including outpatient therapy, intensive outpatient programs, inpatient treatment, psychiatric services, and medication for addiction treatment.
  • Arrange counseling for mental health disorders, grief, legal, and family issues.
  • Support continuity of care, aftercare planning, and follow-up to promote treatment engagement and positive outcomes.
  • Assist laborers and family members in accessing any needed after care for mental health-related issues, as well as follow up to ensure participation.
  • Collaborate with Fund leadership and contracted vendors to monitor treatment resources for clinical appropriateness and cost effectiveness. Crisis Response and On-site Support
  • Provide crisis incident response and on-site behavioral health support at jobsites, union halls, training facilities, or other locations as needed.
  • Provide on-call clinical emergency backup for evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Educate laborers on job sites before and after work hours, at apprentice training sessions, and at union meetings and union halls on mental health-related services. Compliance, Reporting, and Professional Development
  • Maintain a working knowledge of current trends and developments in behavioral health, including evidence-based practices, Medication for Addiction Treatment (MAT), trauma-informed care, and integrated behavioral health models.
  • Prepare quarterly and annual reporting as determined by Fund leadership, including utilization trends.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules and protect all Protected Health Information (PHI).
  • Maintain active, independent licensure in accordance with state regulations and professional standards.
  • Participate in continuing education seminars, reading material, and appropriate training to support high-quality clinical service delivery.
  • Perform any other duties as necessary and appropriate.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Active, unrestricted, Massachusetts independent clinical license required (LICSW, LMHC, or LMFT).
  • A master's degree in the appropriate field, Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field required.
  • Experience providing clinical assessment, crisis intervention, and care coordination within a behavioral health setting.
  • Willingness to attend CEU programs to enhance skills and maintain licensure.
  • Must have knowledge and understanding of HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules to ensure the protection of participants' Protected Health Information (PHI).
  • Valid Driver's license is required; local travel is essential to job duties.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS
  • Familiarity with healthcare provider network and EAP services.
  • Strong advocacy skills along with knowledge of community-based services, resources, and local recovery community.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with peer-based Recovery Specialists.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; Must be able to effectively interact with internal staff and external clients.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously.
  • Experience working with union/blue-collar populations, jobsite-based outreach, or EAP/vendor coordination.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
