POSITION TITLE
Behavioral Health Clinician (BHC)
  • Integrated Care Team
POSITION SUMMARY
The Behavioral Health Clinician (BHC) is a core member of the integrated pediatric primary care team who provides assessment, consultation, and therapeutic intervention to address mental and behavioral health needs within the medical home, emphasizing brief intervention, timely access to care, and attention to health disparities. The BHC delivers brief, evidence-based interventions and, when appropriate, selective longer-term therapy for children from birth through transitional age and their families.

LOCATION
Primary Care Sites and Telehealth, as applicable
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide behavioral health assessments, diagnosis clarification, and brief interventions Deliver evidence-based therapy aligned with the primary care model Provide same-day consultations and warm handoffs from primary care providers Serve as a behavioral health consultant to pediatric providers and the care team Collaborate with PCPs and CHWs on case review and integrated treatment planning Coordinate referrals to specialty behavioral health, community-based services, and step-up care for complex cases Incorporate a health equity lens into assessment and treatment, recognizing the impact of social, economic, and structural factors on child and family well-being Partner with families experiencing barriers to care, including language, access, and systemic inequities Participate in care management and quality improvement activities Maintain timely EHR documentation and team communication
PANEL MANAGEMENT EXPECTATIONS
Manage a behavioral health pediatric population panel (up to 3,000 patients) providing direct services to a subset of patients based on clinical need within a population-based care model. Complete 25-30 patient visits per week (approximately 60% clinical time) Balance clinical work with consultation, documentation, meetings, and training
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & LICENSURE
Master's degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, or Marriage and Family Therapy, or doctoral training in Psychology Child clinical training with experience in behavioral health or medical settings Current state licensure or supported pathway toward licensure Bilingual and/or bicultural preferred

Brief, evidence-based therapeutic interventions Strong assessment and consultation skills Knowledge of pediatric medical and behavioral health conditions Experience with interdisciplinary, trauma-informed care Skills in engaging diverse populations and addressing health inequities Proficiency in EHR documentation and care coordination
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Outpatient pediatric primary care and integrated behavioral health settings, including in-person and telehealth services.
