THE FAMILY
| An active and loving first-time family in Riverside is seeking a highly flexible, fully committed nanny to care for their 4-month-old son. The family includes two devoted parents, their infant son, and a friendly 4-year-old Labrador retriever. Due to the nature of their professions, both parents maintain demanding and nontraditional schedules, including holidays. Care is needed when both parents are working, which requires a nanny who is exceptionally adaptable and comfortable with a variable schedule rather than a standard Monday-Friday routine. The family guarantees 25-30 hours per week; however, weekly schedules will fluctuate, with some lighter weeks and others requiring significantly more hours (think 4 on the lighter days and up to 12 when mom and dad are working on the same day). Schedules are provided 2-3 months in advance, allowing the nanny to plan accordingly. While the extended family resides in California, they are not local to the area. They may occasionally assist on weekends, holidays, or with overnight care, but consistent support will primarily come from the nanny. The family recognizes that many nannies prefer predictable schedules, so this position is best suited for someone who enjoys flexibility and can confidently "ebb and flow" with the family's needs over the next year. Long-term, the parents anticipate transitioning their son into a daycare setting between 18 months and 2 years of age. Typical shifts will range from 4-8 hours, with occasional extended days of up to 12 hours when both parents have longer shifts. This is a wonderful opportunity for an experienced childcare professional who thrives in dynamic environments and values a role centered around attentive, high-quality infant and eventual toddler care.
THE INFANT
| The family's 4-month-old son is a happy, easygoing infant with a sweet and engaging personality. He is very smiley, good-tempered, and right on track developmentally. He is currently exclusively breastfed, nursing approximately 6-8 times per day. As mom returns to work, she will be pumping, and the nanny will take over feeding responsibilities. The family plans to begin introducing solids in the coming weeks and months. He currently has no digestive issues and maintains regular daily bowel movements. His daily routine is beginning to take shape. After waking and feeding in the morning, he enjoys floor play, tummy time, and interactive engagement. He typically goes for a morning walk in the baby carrier with mom and the family dog, during which he often takes a nap lasting about an hour. After another feeding, he continues with playtime, reading, and developmental activities. He takes a longer nap in the early afternoon, often a contact nap, which can last 1-2 hours. The afternoon includes more tummy time and play, followed by a shorter evening walk with both parents and the dog. He currently takes baths a few times per week. Bedtime typically falls between 7:00 and 8:30 PM, depending on his feeding schedule and sleep cues. His first stretch of sleep is generally strong, lasting 5-7 hours, followed by a shorter second stretch of 2-4 hours. He wakes for the day between 6:00 and 7:30 AM. They are currently developing his bedtime routine and always read Goodnight Moon and sing Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star before bed.
THE JOB DETAILS
| The role will be primarily child-focused. Responsibilities include all baby-related tasks such as feeding, maintaining a clean and organized nursery and play areas, washing bottles and baby dishes, handling the baby's laundry as needed, restocking items such as diapers and wipes, and emptying the diaper pail when full. The family does not expect any household duties beyond those directly related to the child. Given the parents' dynamic schedules, flexibility is essential. The ideal candidate understands that some weeks may require longer or more demanding hours, while others may be lighter, and is comfortable with that natural fluctuation. There will also be light, occasional care for the family's friendly Labrador retriever. This includes ensuring he has water, letting him out for bathroom breaks during the day, and keeping a general eye on him. Some days, he may attend a dog sitter for additional activity. The nanny will not be responsible for walking the dog.
THE PARENTING PHILOSOPHY
| As their son is still very young, the family is not yet using any formal disciplinary approach. As he grows, they would expect the nanny to follow their lead and use the same guidance, boundaries, and management style that they would use themselves if they were home. The family also prefers a screen-free environment for their son. They would like the nanny to keep all screens away from him and to keep their phone off, especially while he is awake. They value being fully present and engaged during care, and hope to work with someone who shares that approach. The family encourages music, reading, and storytelling.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
| A nanny who will provide a warm, nurturing, and attentive environment for their son while they are at work. They would love someone with prior infant experience, though they do not require a minimum number of years. A background that includes some college coursework or a degree is preferred, particularly in child development, but this is not a strict requirement. A second language—ideally Spanish—is a plus, though not required.] They are looking for someone who is kind, easygoing, communicative, and genuine—someone who is naturally warm, easy to connect with, and able to build a trusting relationship with both the parents and their child. A strong personal connection is important to this family, though they prefer someone with some experience who is not seeking their first nanny position. Because the parents work highly nontraditional and variable schedules, they are especially looking for someone who is flexible, dependable, and comfortable with a schedule that may change from week to week. There is no need for on-the-job driving The family's required immunizations include TDaP, MMR, and chickenpox. Preferred, but not required, immunizations include the annual flu vaccine, COVID, and hepatitis
A/B. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
At least 1 to 2 years of previous nanny experience with a dedicated professional family, with strong infant and toddler experience. Must be able to commit to the family's nontraditional and variable schedule, including flexibility from week to week. Comfortable working in a home where one or both parents may be working from home or sleeping. Must be flexible, dependable, and available to follow the family's schedule as provided in advance. A valid driver's license with a clean driving record. A reliable personal vehicle. Clear background check and TrustLine Registry approval. Current CPR and First Aid certification for both pediatrics and adults. Up-to-date required immunizations, including TDaP, MMR, and chickenpox (required), annual flu vaccine, COVID, and hepatitis A/B (preferred). Must be a non-smoker. Dog friendly. Strong, professional references that speak to the candidate's experience, reliability, and professionalism. Able to commit to this family and their schedule for at least one year. The role requires physical stamina, including the ability to safely lift and carry the infant, place him in and out of the crib, and sit on the floor for extended periods while engaging with him as he grows.
THE SCHEDULE
| This family has a highly variable schedule and is seeking a nanny who is truly flexible and able to adapt from week to week. Care needs will depend on the parents' work schedules, and while some weeks may be lighter, others may require significantly more coverage. On average, the family needs approximately 25 hours per week, with the understanding that weekly hours will fluctuate as needed. Typical coverage may include 4-hour shifts on days when one parent is working, and the other is home, as well as 4-hour shifts after overnight or extended shifts. On days when both parents are working, the family may require up to 12 hours of care. They may also need occasional 4-8 hour coverage on administrative workdays. When morning care is needed, the nanny should be available to start by 6:30 AM. The family receives their schedule 2-3 months in advance and will share it as soon as possible so the nanny can plan accordingly. This role is best suited for someone who is comfortable with a nontraditional schedule and who can confidently accommodate changing weekly needs while providing consistent, reliable care. In rare emergencies related to the parents' professions, a shift may end later than anticipated.
THE RATE
| The family is offering a pay rate of $28 to $30 per hour, with overtime paid after 9 hours in a day or 45 hours in a week. Additional benefits include a $20 monthly cell phone stipend, access to a CalSavers retirement plan, and a year-end bonus. There is also the possibility of additional hours, along with occasional weekend help. Vacation and sick time will be accrued throughout employment. Due to the nature of their professions, they request a few months' notice for anticipated vacation time so they can request time off from their employers.
