THE FAMILY OVERVIEW
| These first-time parents recently welcomed their son and are excited to find a warm, experienced nanny to become a trusted part of their family's support system. They are seeking a long-term nanny to provide care two full days per week, Mondays and Fridays, working 10-hour days. The maternal grandmother will be caring for their son on the remaining three weekdays. She is an active and involved grandmother who plans to continue in this role for the foreseeable future. However, should her schedule or availability change over time, the nanny position could expand to three days per week. While additional hours cannot be guaranteed, the family would welcome a candidate who is open to additional hours in the future. The ideal nanny will have a strong background caring for infants and toddlers and will confidently support their son's growth and development during these early years. Both parents work from home. Dad works from a dedicated office off the primary bedroom, while Mom primarily works at the kitchen table with noise-canceling headphones. The family has thoughtfully organized dedicated spaces for diaper changes, play, and naps, creating a comfortable environment for both the nanny and their son. They live in a spacious two-story apartment in Santa Monica and share their home with two very friendly indoor cats.
THE HOME ENVIRONMENT
| Parenting Philosophy. Discipline Approach. Screen Time.
Parenting Philosophy:
As first-time parents, they recognize that their parenting approach will continue to evolve as their son grows. They have established a structured yet responsive routine, thoughtfully balancing consistency with attentiveness to his individual needs. Since he was just a few weeks old, they have maintained a predictable feeding and nap schedule, making adjustments based on his cues and developmental milestones. When making parenting decisions, whether related to sleep, feeding, or developmental milestones, they appreciate evidence-based guidance and enjoy researching current best practices. Their goal is to create a calm, nurturing, and secure home environment where their son can thrive.
Discipline:
At his current age, discipline is not yet applicable. As he grows, the family plans to establish clear, age-appropriate expectations while emphasizing communication, guidance, and natural consequences rather than punitive discipline.
Screen Time:
The family is not introducing screen time during infancy. Instead, they encourage activities that foster connection and development, including reading, music, singing, conversation, and interactive play.
THE INFANT SON
| Their son will be approximately five months old when the nanny begins. He is described as a smiley, observant, and highly sociable baby who enjoys engaging with the people around him. He has already settled into a predictable daily rhythm, following a consistent feeding schedule and typically taking four naps throughout the day, with varying lengths depending on his needs. During his awake windows, his parents intentionally focus on activities that support his growth and development. His days include tummy time, practicing age-appropriate developmental milestones, reading books, listening to music, and enjoying walks outdoors. They value meaningful interaction and strive to create enriching experiences that encourage curiosity and learning. As he grows, the family hopes to gradually expand his world through age-appropriate outings and community activities, such as visits to the park, music classes, story time at the library, and other opportunities for socialization and exploration. One of his favorite things is being sung to, and he lights up when caregivers engage with him through songs, conversation, and playful interaction. The family would love a nanny who genuinely enjoys talking, reading, and singing throughout the day, making these moments a natural part of his routine.
THE JOB DETAILS
| The nanny's primary focus will be providing exceptional, attentive care while creating a safe, nurturing, and developmentally enriching environment for the family's son.
Responsibilities include:
Providing attentive, developmentally appropriate care throughout the day. Preparing formula and bottles, feeding, burping, soothing, and diapering. Loading and unloading the bottle washer. Washing and putting away the child's laundry, including clothing, crib sheets, sleep sacks, and towels. Supporting developmental milestones through tummy time, sensory play, fine and gross motor activities, and interactive play by coming up with ideas. Reading, singing, talking, and engaging in age-appropriate activities throughout the day. Preparing simple meals as solids are introduced. Take the diaper pail trash out as needed. Keeping the nursery, play areas, and feeding/changing stations tidy, organized, and well-stocked. Planning enriching outings and activities as the child grows, including walks, parks, music classes, and library story times. Growing alongside the family by adapting to the child's changing developmental needs as he grows.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
| A warm, experienced professional who is passionate about caring for infants and is looking to build a meaningful, long-term relationship with one family. They value a nanny who is calm, engaging, attentive, and highly dependable, with exceptional attention to detail and a genuine passion for supporting a child's early growth and development. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience caring for infants and a strong understanding of age-appropriate developmental milestones. They should be knowledgeable about current evidence-based infant care practices, feel comfortable partnering with parents who appreciate research-informed decision-making, and remain flexible to their son's individual needs. This position is best suited for someone seeking a long-term, part-time role who can commit to the family's schedule for at least the next year. Ideally, they hope to find someone who will grow alongside their family and remain an important part of their son's life for the next two to three years or longer. Because both parents work from home, the nanny should feel comfortable working in a collaborative environment while also being confident, independent, and able to take full ownership of the day-to-day care. Strong communication skills and a strong command of English, both written and verbal, are essential. The family appreciates receiving occasional photos and updates throughout the day, along with a thoughtful recap at the end of each shift. They also use a digital tracking app to record feedings, naps, and diaper changes, and would value a nanny who is comfortable maintaining these records to ensure seamless communication and consistency.
