About the Role The Valley Shore YMCA is seeking a friendly, reliable, and service-oriented Childcare Attendant to create a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for children while supporting parents and families. This position ensures children in our care are supervised attentively and that the YMCA's mission, purpose, image, and core values are consistently represented. In this role, you'll promote a positive, nurturing, and safe experience for children of all ages, helping families feel confident and connected to the YMCA community. You will actively engage with children through age-appropriate activities, ensure their safety and well-being at all times, and foster a welcoming environment where every child feels valued and supported. What You'll Do Provide active supervision of all children and program activities, ensuring safety, engagement, and rapport. Introduce children to rules, routines, schedules, and designated activity areas. Track attendance accurately and ensure the safety and well-being of each child. Report all accidents or incidents to supervisors and complete documentation accurately and promptly. Follow all YMCA and regulatory procedures and maintain a clean, safe, and organized program environment. Assist with daily set-up, breakdown, inventory, and proper storage of equipment and supplies. Build positive relationships with children, families, members, and staff. Support implementation of special activities, themed plans, and enrichment experiences. Deliver exceptional customer service to parents, members, and coworkers. Attend required meetings, training, or professional development opportunities. What We're Looking For Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community. Strong customer service and verbal communication skills. Child Abuse Prevention training required within 7 days of hire. Minimum age requirement of 16, as required by state regulations and YMCA policy. Previous experience working with children in a childcare, educational, or developmental setting preferred. Ability to plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities for various age groups. Professionalism, maturity, and conduct reflecting YMCA core values. Strong organizational skills and ability to communicate effectively with parents, children, and coworkers. CPR, AED, and First Aid certification required within 90 days of hire. Work Schedule Part-time, flexible hours available (Includes Weekends and Evenings). Ideal for students, early-career professionals, or anyone seeking meaningful part-time work in a fitness environment.
