Job Description

The Summer Daze Group Leader plans, directs and supervises a safe, professional, respectful, activity-oriented, child-centered, age-appropriate summer child care program for an assigned age group of elementary school-aged children. Summer Daze is a full-day child care program operating during the summer.
Responsibilities:
Represent, advocate and communicate the mission, vision and programs of the YWCA to the community at all times. Maintain a safe environment through adherence to Iowa Department of Human Services Child Day Care Licensing Standards. Ensure safety of children at all times. Strictly adhere to all YWCA protocols, policies, processes and procedures. Ensure that child care staff are present both in the water and on the pool deck during swimming. Observe staff and environment to ensure that staff are engaged and actively participating with children at all times. Be actively and visibly engaged with children, role modeling appropriate work and interactive skills and behaviors. Maintain an active role within the environment to ensure that children are engaged and actively participating. Plan and implement child-centered, age-appropriate, inclusive programming, activities, and curriculum. Ensure positive child care environment, opportunities, and experiences for participants, families and staff. Supervise child care staff, monitoring performance and providing feedback and coaching as necessary. Report concerns regarding staff attendance or performance to the Child Care Administrative team in a timely manner. Promote and maintain positive and continual communication with parents/guardians. Keep accurate records and statistics as assigned. Ensure adequate and appropriate food and program supplies are appropriately stored and available. Promote and maintain positive relationships with all YWCA, school and other community agency personnel. Provide coverage or "substitute" in other groups as assigned. Participate in regular program evaluation process via surveying of program users as assigned. Communicate all relevant information to Child Care Department and to YWCA front office in a timely manner. Participate in relevant training to remain current in all best practices. Demonstrate cultural competence and inclusivity and apply to every day lessons and activities. Other duties as assigned by YWCA Child Care Co-Directors, Child Care Assistant Director, or Executive Director. Requirements /
Qualifications:
  • Education and experience in a field related to children and youth required. A B.A. in elementary education, recreation, education or related fields in early childhood or child development is preferred.
  • Prior to first day of programming, must be certified in First Aid, AED, CPR, Mandatory reporting of child abuse, Blood Borne Pathogens, Hazardous Materials, as well as obtaining yearly continuing education hours as related to the school age field
  • Must successfully pass the State of Iowa criminal and child abuse records background check for child care providers.
  • Must be able to stand for prolonged periods and frequent bending.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
Must be able to tolerate outdoor heat and humidity
Pay:
$15.50 per hour
