This position is ideal for someone who loves cooking from scratch, creating nutritious meals for children, and being an important part of a warm and supportive early childhood environment. Location The Nook South Loop 1929 S. Archer Ave Chicago, IL 60616 Schedule Monday-Friday 7:30 AM - 2:30 PM Pay $17.25-$18.50 per hour, based on experience and educational background
Responsibilities Include:
Planning and preparing nutritious, age-appropriate breakfasts, lunches, and snacks for infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children Creating weekly menus that meet USDA and childcare nutrition guidelines Shopping for groceries and kitchen supplies on a weekly basis while staying within the center's food budget Preparing meals from scratch and incorporating creativity and variety into the menu Accommodating food allergies and dietary restrictions as needed Maintaining a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen environment Following all food safety, sanitation, and licensing requirements Managing food inventory and minimizing waste Working collaboratively with center leadership and classroom staff to support a positive environment for children
Requirements:
Previous cooking or kitchen experience required (childcare, school, healthcare, or institutional setting preferred) Ability to independently plan menus and prepare meals for groups of children Knowledge of USDA food program guidelines and food safety practices preferred Strong organizational and time-management skills Ability to lift and carry groceries and kitchen supplies Ability to pass a background check prior to hire Reliable, punctual, self-motivated, and team-oriented
