Job Description

The Women's Safe House (TWSH) is the oldest and largest provider of emergency services to women and children experiencing domestic violence. We also work with women and families experiencing sexual assault, stalking and human trafficking. The Women's Safe House is a 24-hour facility. We are an active member of the State of Missouri and National Coalitions Against Domestic and Sexual Violence. The Youth Development Advocate is responsible for providing comprehensive support and services to children and youth (residents) residing in TWSH shelter with a trauma-informed approach. This role supports children's emotional safety, social development, and overall well-being while reinforcing parents' roles as primary caregivers. The Youth Development Advocate collaborates with case management and shelter staff to ensure a structured, nurturing, and safe environment for youth impacted by domestic violence and related trauma. If you have experience in daycare, childcare, preschool, after-school programs, or as a teacher's aide , this role may be a great fit.
  • This is a full-time, benefits eligible position.
The Advocate works 40 hours/week Monday - Friday from 9:00 am - 5:00pm. One night/week is required to support evening group until 7:00 pm.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
Youth Programming & Support Provide predetermined program instruction to participants of the Youth Development Program. Support and work in conjunction with Youth Development Supervisor in implementing a structured program for children residing in the shelter. Provide respite support to caregivers through supervised activities and programming. Conduct child orientations and intake processes upon shelter entry. Support facilitation of youth support groups and assist in collecting required outcome data. Maintain documentation of participant engagement, progress, and observations in accordance with program standards. Environment & Safety Maintain a physically and emotionally safe environment for children and youth. Rotate developmentally appropriate toys and activities based on age and needs of participants. Sanitize toys, materials, and surfaces regularly in compliance with health and safety protocols. Model trauma-informed behavior management strategies. Shelter Operations Support Provide crisis hotline coverage as assigned to support shelter operations. Assist with general shelter upkeep including sanitation of shared items (e.g., water coolers), organization of storage areas, and disposal of items left behind by exiting residents. Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to ensure coordinated services for families. Perform additional duties as assigned in support of shelter operations and survivor services.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 1-2 years of experience facilitating structured activities or curriculum for youth
  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Commitment to trauma-informed care and survivor-centered services Preferred
  • Coursework or experience in Early Childhood Development, Education, Social Services, or related field
  • Experience working in a domestic violence, shelter, or crisis services setting
