  • Full-time A Chapel Hill family of five is seeking an experienced, proactive, and nurturing nanny/house manager to join them in a long-term role supporting both their children and the overall flow of their home.
With three young children:
a spirited and independent 2-year-old, a kind and thoughtful 4-year-old, and an imaginative and highly social almost 6-year-old, the family is looking for a candidate who can confidently balance engaging childcare with thoughtful household support.

Each child brings their own unique personality and needs. The youngest is full of energy and charm, eager to explore her independence and socialize with others, and will be starting preschool in the fall. The 4-year-old is gentle and loving, sometimes slow to warm up, and enjoys puzzles, trucks, and outdoor play; he has a peanut allergy, so comfort with allergy safety and EpiPen administration is essential. The oldest is a rising kindergartener who thrives on connection, creativity, and hands-on play, with interests in Legos and messy activities; he has asthma and mild anxiety, benefiting from a calm, structured, and supportive environment. This role blends childcare and household management.
Required Hours:
Monday-Thursday, 10:00 am-7:00 pm Guaranteed 36 minimum hours Flexibility for additional household management hours in the mornings, Fridays, and/or occasional weekends based on candidate preference to offer up to 40 hours a week An ideal candidate is flexible to adjust the schedule for school holidays and teacher workdays Afternoons are centered around the children, including school pickups (all within close proximity to the home), engaging in play, supporting rest and development, and reinforcing social-emotional and early academic skills. The family provides a vehicle for all transportation needs. The home is centrally located within walking distance to parks and the library, with ample outdoor space including a fenced yard, and memberships to local museums and activities. Outside of childcare hours, the role includes a wide range of household management responsibilities aimed at keeping the home running smoothly to support busy parents. Tasks include tidying and resetting shared spaces, managing laundry, unloading the dishwasher, grocery shopping and inventory, meal prep for children and family dinners, light cleaning tasks, organizing, running errands, and creating systems that reduce the family's mental load. The family values someone who takes initiative, notices what needs to be done, and communicates clearly without needing detailed direction.
Ideal Candidate:
Strong communicator who can establish consistent routines and maintain a calm presence Aligned with a punishment-free parenting approach rooted in Conscious Discipline Able to set age-appropriate boundaries while supporting children's social and emotional development Educational background or coursework in early childhood or elementary education required Previous experience as a nanny and household manager Comfortable supporting early academic development, including foundational reading skills
Additional Requirements:
Non-smoker Up to date on vaccinations (including COVID boosters and flu) CPR and First Aid certified Comfortable administering an EpiPen Comfortable working in a home with a friendly, hypoallergenic Goldendoodle Able to work alongside a parent who occasionally works from home in a separate space This is a wonderful opportunity for a career nanny who enjoys being deeply integrated into a family's daily life, values both childcare and household management, and is looking for a long-term position for years to come with a warm, thoughtful family. North State Nannies (formerly Select Sitters) is a local nanny agency that connects qualified childcare providers with families. We work alongside qualified candidates to find a great fit and advocate for competitive pay and benefits. The family ultimately hires and employs the nanny.
