Job Description
A busy and organized family of five in Durham is seeking a proactive, detail-oriented nanny/family assistant to support their home and three school-aged children (ages 6-9). This is a long-term opportunity for a candidate who enjoys balancing childcare with household management and thrives in a structured, fast-paced environment. The family values routine, efficiency, and meaningful time together. They are looking for a reliable and intuitive partner who can take initiative, anticipate needs, and help keep the home running smoothly with minimal direction. The ideal candidate is warm, professional, highly organized, and confident in managing both childcare and household responsibilities.
Schedule:
Monday-Friday, approximately 40-45 hours per week Typical hours fall between 7:00 AM - 5:30/6:00 PM, with flexibility and an adjusted schedule to maintain guaranteed hours Occasional evening, weekend, or travel support is available but not requiredCompensation & Benefits:
Starting at $27+/hour, competitive pay depending on experience and qualifications Guaranteed hours (40/week) Mileage reimbursement and healthcare stipend available Predictable schedule with advance notice of any changesChildren:
Three children 6-year-old, boy 9-year-old, boy/girl twins The children are in school from approximately 7:30 AM - 3:00 PM during the academic yearPrimary Responsibilities:
Childcare & Family Support Manage school drop-offs and pick-ups Provide after-school care, supervision, and support Prepare backpacks, snacks, and daily essentials Stay organized with school schedules, activities, and communication Assist with child-related errands and laundry Maintain a no-screen-time environment Household Management Support Maintain overall organization and cleanliness of the home, including daily resets, light housekeeping, and preparation for cleaning services Plan and prepare 2-3 healthy family meals per week; assist with grocery shopping, school lunches, and kitchen upkeep Manage household inventory, restocking, and errands (including shopping, returns, dry cleaning, and package/mail management) Oversee family laundry, linens, and closet organization, including seasonal transitions and donation coordination Support event preparation, guest readiness, and holiday organization Oversee vendors and service providers, including scheduling, coordination, and project follow-through Assist with basic home and vehicle maintenance (e.g., light upkeep, fueling, scheduling service) Provide occasional administrative support, including travel preparation and household logisticsIdeal Candidate:
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive Prior nanny and household management experience Confident multitasker who takes initiative and follows through Warm, calm, and professional with strong boundaries Flexible and adaptable with a positive, can-do attitude Strong time management skills and the ability to anticipate needsRequirements:
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (family vehicle provided for work use) CPR/First Aid certification Up-to-date vaccinations (Covid booster, flu, tdap, and childhood vaccines) Non-smoker The family is excited to welcome a dependable and detail-oriented professional into their home who can help keep things running smoothly day-to-day.
