ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Supervise the children, classroom, and all activities. Create a safe environment where all individuals feel welcomed and respected. Participate in planning and implementing program activities within the established YMCA guidelines. Nurture children through purposeful programming dedicated to building achievement and belonging. Work with supervisors and peers to develop the whole child. Make ongoing observations and evaluations of each child. Report observations to supervisor. Build effective, authentic relationships with students and parents; help them connect with each other and the YMCA. Maintain positive relationships and effective communication with parents. Set up, organize, and put away needed class equipment. Familiar with proper usage of equipment. Report damaged equipment. Follow all YMCA and state policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Maintains all appropriate forms and documentation in accordance with these policies. 1Understand your role as a mandated reporter for elder and child abuse. Report and respond to situations in accordance with policies and procedures. Demonstrate and uphold the YMCA's core values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, and growth mindset in all aspects of your work.
QUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma and at least 18 years of age; OR enrolled in the second year of or have completed a two-year career-technical program in child development or be a high school senior and also enrolled in a college credit program in child development.
Certifications:
Have ormust be able to complete Y provided CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, and Basic First Aid certification classes. Previous experience working with children preferred. Ability to organize and implement age-appropriate program activities. Previous experience with diverse populations preferred. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Medium work. Exerting 50 pounds of force rarely, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Subject to noise. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level. Frequently subjected to environmental conditions
- heat and humidity both inside and outside.
May occur mostly outside.
Ability to:
stand, sit, stoop, kneel, and crouch frequently throughout the work shift; squatting, jumping, running, balancing, lifting and repetitive motion may be needed depending on group exercise style/ type; walk throughout the facility frequently and may need to climb stairs occasionally; have visual acuity to determine safety, security and assessment of participant's movements; receive detailed information through sound as well as express through spoken word.
